After years of speculation, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has finally made an official entry into politics.

Her appointment as the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East is being labelled a ‘masterstroke’ that reflects the party's intent to go whole hog in the politically-crucial state.

From journalists to political analysts, people took to Twitter to congratulate Priyanka on her political debut while some pointed out that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections had become “more exciting.”

An Upcoming ‘Modi Vs Priyanka’ Battle

Senior journalists such as Barkha Dutt and Shekhar Gupta highlighted that Priyanka has been made incharge of East UP, which includes two key constituencies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha seat Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s stronghold Gorakhpur.

Gupta even called this a ‘risky’ appointment, which is “uncharacteristic” of the Gandhi family.

‘Will Priyanka be as Successful as Indira?’

A Twitter user, Roshan Rai, said that Congress lacked a strong female leader and Priyanka’s entry into active politics solves that concern. People also said that it remains to be seen if Priyanka will be as successful in her political career as her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Comparisons With The the Kennedys, Castros

Another Twitter user, Ashok Swain, likened the Rahul-Priyanka pair to “Kennedys and Castros”.

Elections Just Got More ‘Exciting’

Others Question If It’s Too Late

Tweeple also voiced concerns that Priyanka’s appointment was a “little too late” for the Congress and it could undermine party President“Rahul’s (Gandhi) credibility.”
