Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 5 June, reportedly constituted two new committees under his chairmanship to tackle the two major challenges of economic growth and jobs.

The five-member committee on Investment and Growth comprises of Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, reported ANI.

Another 10-member committee which will look at employment and skill development includes Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Human and Resorce Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Skill and Entrepreneurship Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey and Ministers of State Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Hardeep Singh Puri.

According to a CNN-News18 report, these two committees will look at the challenges and offer solutions some of which could be presented in the upcoming union budget which will be presented on 5 July.

The Indian economy has been a cause of concern with the GDP dropping to 5.8 percent in the last quarter of 2018-2019 and the overall GDP for the previous financial year was at 6.8 percent against the targeted 7.2 percent.

Similarly, the data on employment released by the Ministry of Statistics confirmed that the unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent which was at a 45-year high. The data was previously revealed in a news report before the 2019 elections.
