The Bengaluru police has once again denied permission to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui's show ‘Dongri to nowhere' in the city, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, 20 August.

The event was cancelled as the organisers had not taken permission to organise it in the city, police said.

However, the comedian said on Friday, 19 August, that his show was cancelled due to health reasons.

"Tonight’s (Friday) show has been postponed to next Friday, as I missed my flight due to health issues. I’m really sorry. Going through a test, (I) hope it is not Covid."

A Hindutva outfit, Jai Shri Ram Sena, had lodged a complaint against the comedian and the organisers with Bengaluru Police Commissioner C H Pratap Reddy.

In its complaint, the outfit alleged that Faruqui has hurt Hindu sentiments in his shows by making insulting remarks against Lord Ram and goddess Sita.

"In light of the seriousness of the matter, we would like to request your support to cancel the Talk Show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ and restrict such self-proclaimed comedians from insulting and hurting religious sentiments of Hindu gods and goddesses," the complaint was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

The comedian was denied permission to perform here in November 2021 on the same ground.

On Saturday evening, Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers protested in Hyderabad against Faruqui's show, following which the police detained some protesters, reported ANI.
