Defying early trends, the TRS on Friday, 4 December emerged to be the single largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, with the BJP not far behind at the second spot.
The TRS won 55 seats, the BJP won 48, the AIMIM won 44 and the Congress won two.
While Home Minister Amit Shah and TRS’ KT Rama Rao both thanked the people of Hyderabad, Rao said that the results were not as the party had expexcted.

Telangana's health authorities on Wednesday advised all those who participated in the campaign for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections to isolate themselves for one week.
All the party leaders, party workers, and other individuals who were directly involved in the campaigning have been urged to isolate so that they don't end up spreading COVID-19.
Director of Public Health Dr Srinivas Rao said individuals who were actively involved in the campaigning can also get themselves tested at the nearest government urban primary health centre.
A total of 46.60 percent of over 74 lakh voters cast their votes on Tuesday in the elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Telangana State Election Commission said on Wednesday.
The final figures were released a day after the polling which was largely peaceful and smooth, barring a goof-up which led to poll postponement in one division.
Counting for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections will begin shortly.
The BJP is leading in 80 seats while the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 29 seats, The Times of India (TOI) reported.
As of 11 am, the BJP is leading in 74 seats while the TRS leads in 21. The TDP or the Congress have not been leading in any seat so far.
Telangana BJP MP D Arvind said that “transformation has started in the state”, after the party took massive leads in early trends.
“The transformation has started in the state of Telangana. You have seen Lok Sabha election results then Dubbaka by-election and now GHMC. Let us wait till the evening, but it is clear message to TRS that people want change,” he said, as quoted by ANI.
The BJP has claimed victory over the Hyderabad civic body GHMC polls with leads in 88 seats as of 11.15 am.
The Election Commission is likely to move a lunch motion in the High Court, asking the court to review its decision to invalidate ballots that do not have the the official stamp, The News Minute reported. The HC had earlier in the morning directed that only those ballots which have the designated mark on them be considered valid.
Karnataka BJP leader BL Santhosh took to Twitter to congratulate the people o Hyderabad after the party took leads in the state.
“WELDONE BHAGYANAGAR ......!!!! Great going team @BJP4Telangana You made a mark,” he tweeted.
He also congratulated Telangana MP and state’s BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar for the party’s performance.
“We know what @BJP4Telangana is up against ..It’s facing a deadly mix of communal, money & manipulative politics . With this, Team @bandisanjay_bjp have put up a great fight,” he tweeted.
As of 12:00 PM, the BJP has taken leads in 88 seats, while the TRS is leading in 32. The AIMIM is at the third position with 17 seats.
Union Minister Hardeep Puri took to Twitter to say that “policies of transformative development are hard to beat.”
BJP chief spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao expressed confidence of the party winning the mayor’s seat.
“The BJP is leading in the early trends. And we believe that we will continue the trend and win the Mayor's position by the end of the day. We are now leading in the postal ballots. We strongly believe that we will continue this trend,” he said, as quoted by The News Minute.
Former GHMC Mayor Majid Hussain of the AIMIM wins Mehdipatnam division, TNM reported.

BJP general secretary Y Satya Kumar took to Twitter to say that the party has given the TRS a run for its money.
“As the initial trends have suggested, @BJP4Telangana has set its place as a dominant force in the state and is now ready to give TRS a run for its money. The regime of TRS has its days numbered...” he tweeted.
TRS candidate Rasuri Sunitha won from Mettuguda division, TNM reported.
Hussain Khan from AIMIM wins from Dabeerpura division.

As of 1:00 pm, the BJP is leading in 23 seats while the TRS is leading in 57. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is at the second position so far with leads in 30 seats, while the Congress is leading in two.
Tamil Nadu BJP leader Khushbu Sundar thanked the people of Hyderabad and said that teh results show faith in PM Modi and and the BJP.
“Results of #GHMCElections2020 in Telengana clearly shows what people want. We have nothing to say. Complete trust in @BJP4India in @narendramodi ji is for all to see. Thank you Hyderabad. And hyderabadis. Miyan n begum saahibas, aap logaan dil Jeet liye,” she tweeted.
As of 2:30 pm, the TRS is leading in 70 seats while the BJP is leading in 30. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is at the second position so far with leads in 45 seats, while the Congress is leading in four.
TRS leader K Kavitha said that the numbers of the BJP will further decline as the counting progresses.
“The TRS is winning in most seats. As voting was by paper ballot we have to wait 3-4 hours to get the exact numbers. I believe BJP numbers will further decline and heavy support for TRS will surface. We will have our mayor and do public works uninterrupted,” she said, as quoted by ANI.
As of 4:00 pm, the TRS is leading in 72 seats while the BJP is leading in 34. Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM is at the second position so far with leads in 40 seats, while the Congress is leading in three.
AIMIM's Nasreen Sultana has won from Moghalpura constituency, TNM reported.
BJP's Bukka Bhagyalakshmi has secured a victory in Moosarambagh constituency.
Out of the 56 seats for which the results were declared as of 5:00 pm, the TRS iwon 22 seats, the AIMIM won 23, the BJP won 9 and the Congress won two.
Out of the 99 seats declared so far, the TRS won 41 seats, the AIMIM won 34, the BJP won 22 and the Congress won two.
Out of the 121 seats declared so far, the TRS won 46 seats, the AIMIM won 41, the BJP won 32 and the Congress won two.
Out of the 132 seats declared, the TRS won 53 seats, the AIMIM won 42, the BJP won 35 and the Congress won two.
Leading te Party for six years, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy resigned from the post after Congress’ dismal performance in the GHMC elections.
Out of the 146 seats declared, the TRS won 56 seats, the AIMIM won 42, the BJP won 36 and the Congress won two.
MoS Home Kishan Reddy said that the BJP has emerged stronger as both the TRS and AIMIM have lost seats in the GHMC polls.
“TRS had 99 seats in Hyderabad, this has come down to 55 now. We had four seats and we have won 50 as of now. The number of seats of AIMIM has also gone down, the same goes for TRS. The BJP has today emerged as a strong party,” MoS (Home) G Kishan Reddy said, as quoted by ANI.
“Today's results indicate that we have the blessings of the people in our efforts to bring the BJP government in Telangana in 2023 elections. The TRS has failed, people are against their dynasty rule and corruption. People have paved a way for a BJP government in Telangana, in the days to come,” he added.
Telangana Minister and TRS leader KT Rama Ro thanked the people of Hyderabad after the party emerged as the single largest in the GHMC polls.
“I thank people of Hyderabad who chose TRS as the single largest party to represent them in Council. Result is certainly not what we expected, we're short of 20-25 seats. We lost about 10-12 divisions with extremely narrow margin,” he said, as quoted by ANI.

BJP President JP Nadda said that the GHMC results reflect people’s faith in PM Modi’s governance model.
“The historic result for BJP in Hyderabad GHMC elections shows people's unequivocal support towards PM Modi's development and governance model. I want to thank the people of Hyderabad,” he told ANI.
“The people of Hyderabad have made it clear what will be the results of the Telangana assembly elections (2023). I can say with confidence that people of Telangana have decided to say goodbye to the corrupt KCR government,” he added.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that his party will fight against the BJP democratically and the people of Telangana won’t let the party expand in the state.
“We have won on 44 seats in Hyderabad GHMC elections. I have spoken to all newly elected corporators and asked them to begin their work from tomorrow itself,” he said, asquoted by ANI.
“We will fight the BJP in a democratic way. We are confident that people of Telangana will stop BJP from expanding its footprints in the state,” he added.
