The counting of votes for the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections is underway. Watch The Quint’s live analysis as numbers pour in.

As of now, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in both Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

Most TV channels, in their exit polls, had projected a win for the BJP) in Gujarat. The BJP has been in power in the state for the last 22 years.

Similarly, all major pollsters have predicted a landslide victory for the BJP in the 68-seat Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

For a brief period, the Congress was leading in Gujarat. However, the BJP overtook the Grand Old Party soon after, and is now leading.

The morning saw both the BJP and the Congress fight a close competition in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Both the parties were running neck-and-neck for some time.

The counting of votes began at 8 am on Monday, 18 December.
