Hardik Patel on Saturday, 13 April, said the Congress gave a lot of respect and power to MLA Alpesh Thakor, which he could not handle.
Thakor, who joined Congress in 2017, left the party on 11 April stating that it has “betrayed” him and that Gujarat Kshatriyas Thakor Sena, an outfit floated by Alpesh, comes on “top priority”.
Earlier, president of Gujarat’s Congress Committee Amit Chavda said in a tweet that Alpesh must have taken such a decision under personal, political and financial pressure. “If he suddenly believes that Cong is not the right party for him to be in – We do not agree with it,” Chavda tweeted hours after Alpesh tendered his resignation.
Hardik Patel further alleged that the BJP tried its best to stop him from contesting the Lok Sabha polls.
"I am accepting the decision of the High Court. BJP lawyers tried their best so that I could not contest the ongoing elections. Congress wanted to take me to the Parliament. I am a 25-year-old young man and many elections will come in the future," he said.
