In a sudden development that would have sent the Shiv Sena and the Congress reeling, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as Chief Minister of Maharashtra and NCP’s Ajit Pawar took oath as the Deputy CM of the state on the morning of Saturday, 23 November.
Till late Friday night, a Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance had seemed certain, with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut both asserting that Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was going to be the next chief minister as the alliance had been firmed up.
Less than a day after NCP supremo Sharad Pawar said in no unclear terms that Uddhav Thackeray was the Sena-NCP-Congress alliance’s choice for CM, NCP leader and Pawar’s own nephew Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the Deputy CM.
