Yuvraj Singh won a gold medal at 10. But there’s the catch: It was not for cricket. He won it for skating. Cricket happened by chance for Yuvraj, but soon became his passion.

Humans of Bombay, a photo blog that catalogues stories from the bustling city, recently featured Yuvraj, reminiscing about his journey so far.

Early Steps

The cricketer went through his fair share of trials and tribulations, but the goal of playing for India kept him going.

Behind his immense success is a lot of hard work, perseverance, and confidence, none of which he takes for granted.

Having waited for years, it was in 2000 that he played his first international game with his idols.

Fond Memories

Yuvraj had a great career with a volley of records to his credit. Hitting 6 sixes, winning the 2011 World Cup are a couple. He calls it a privilege and cherishes every bit of it.

A Big Prankster

Yuvi admits to playing many pranks in the Indian dressing room. He fondly recalls one instance when he played a nasty prank on the then Captain, Sourav Ganguly by reprinting the entire front page of the Times of India. He filled it with nasty stories about the Indian cricket team and Ganguly, enraging the latter profusely.

Later, Ganguly chased him down the ground with a bat when he was caught.

A True Fighter

What could be worse than leaving something you absolutely love for cancer? That is what Yuvraj went through; a fierce battle against the disease. But the champion that he is, he knocked it down even more fiercely to come back a winner.

Helping Others: YouWeCan

Yuvraj is aware of his privileges and he makes sure he puts them to good use. Through his foundation, YouWeCan he continues to fight cancer by helping others. He also sponsors the entire education of 25 kids who do not have the means to do so.
