BJP MP from Malda North in West Bengal, Khagen Murmu, who made headlines this Lok Sabha elections by breaching the decades old Congress bastion of Malda was in for a surprise of a non-political kind on Monday, 28 October.

Murmu had ordered a Samsung cellphone online, but what arrived instead was a box with a marble slab.

“What initially surprised me was that instead of Samsung, I found a box of Redmi 5A. The seal of the box was broken and on opening it, I found a couple of marble pieces,” Murmu, told The Telegraph.

Murmu had placed the order a week back, and paid 11,999 rupees as cash on delivery.

“How can they do this? I have lodged an FIR and will raise the issue in Lok Sabha. There should an end to such practices,” he added, also saying that he will file a case in the consumer forum.

The Times Of India reported that once Murmu discovered the marble slabs, he first called up the delivery boy with his complaint. He was then given another number to register his complaint, where the executive on the other hand first apologised for the “misunderstanding” and the sought Murmu’s bank details to refund the money.

“I hung up immediately to avoid another fraud,” Murmu told TOI.

“It can be some fictitious portal. We will probe the case and bust the racket”, said Malda police superintendent Aloke Rajoria.
