‘India Stands United’: Politicians Decry Attack in J&K’s Pulwama

Politicians react to the IED attack in J&K’s Awantipora area that claimed the lives of at least 12 CRPF jawans.

Reacting to the Improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Pulwama’s Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of at least 20 CRPF jawans, politicians on Twitter reacted saying ‘India stands united,’ in this moment of grief.’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemning the attack said “Attack on CRPF personnel in Pulwama is despicable. I strongly condemn this dastardly attack. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel shall not go in vain. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the families of the brave martyrs. May the injured recover quickly.”

On Thursday, 14 February, at least 20 CRPF soldiers were killed while many are feared injured in the blast in Pulwama’s Awantipora area.

The attack on the CRPF bus was followed by gunshots directed at the convoy as militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) later claimed responsibility for IED blast.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a tweet extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs as the attack “deeply disturbed” him.

“I’m deeply disturbed by the cowardly attack on a CRPF convoy in J&K in which 10 of our brave men have been martyred and many others wounded. My condolences to the families of our martyrs. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Gandhi said.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that she was “outraged and deeply grieved” by the attack on the CRPF convoy, which left 40 security personnel dead.

“I’m shocked, outraged and deeply grieved by the barbarous attack on CRPF convoy in J&K. Our brave CRPF personnel died serving the nation selflessly, at the hands of cowardly terrorists, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten,” Sonia Gandhi.

'I Can Understand Pain of Losing Loved Ones': Priyanka Condoles Death of Jawans

Moments after the incident, general secretary of the Congress in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi in a notification said she “understands the pain of losing loved ones in the family”, adding that India stands shoulder-to-shoulder.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also took to Twitter to express grief over the attack on CRPF soldiers.

“Shocked by the dastardly terrorist attack in which CRPF personnel were martyred. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of the injured,” the vice president said.

Former J&K CM Mufti & Abdullah Condemn IED Attack in Pulwama District

Former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah on Thursday, 14 February condemned the incident and extended their condolences to the bereaved families.

Mufti described it as a “gruesome terror attack” while Abdullah condoled and offered prayers to the bereaved families of the soldiers killed.

‘Terrorists Will Be Given Unforgettable Lesson for Their Heinous Act’: Jaitley

Condemning the attack, Union Minister Arun Jaitley expressed anger and said “Terrorists will be given an unforgettable lesson for their heinous act.”

“Attack on CRPF in Pulwama, J&K is cowardice & a condemnable act of terrorists. Nation salutes martyred soldiers and we all stand united with families of martyrs. We pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” Jaitley said on Twitter.

In a series of Tweets, Home Minister Rajnath Singh condoled the death of the CRPF soldiers and announced he will visit the affected area on Friday, 15 February.

“Today’s dastardly attack on CRPF in Pulwama (J&K) is extremely painful and disturbing. I bow to each and every CRPF jawan who has sacrificed his life in service to the nation. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Singh said.

“Home Ministry also spoke to the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, DG CRPF and the Home Secretary regarding the Pulwama attack. They have apprised him of the situation. HM has cancelled his scheduled visit to Bihar tomorrow. MHA is closely monitoring the situation,” he added.

Also reacting to the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a tweet said that “India must unite in this moment of grief.”

‘We Salute Our Brave Jawans’: Mamata Banerjee Reacts

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee extending support to the families said, “Our prayers for those injured. We wish them a speedy recovery.”

“Saddened that 13 CRPF jawans became martyrs today in Pulwama. We salute our brave jawans and extend our solidarity and condolences to their families. Our prayers for those injured. We wish them a speedy recovery,” Banerjee said.

Former Bihar CM in a tweet condemned the attack and demanded that the government take action against the terrorist.

“Deeply pained to know about 18 CRPF soldiers martyred in a cowardice terror attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama. Strongly condemn such cowardly act. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for injured. It’s high time govt must act against terrorists,” Yadav said.
