On Monday, 23 March, massive traffic jam was witnessed at Delhi-Noida border after the Delhi government ordered a complete lockdown of the national capital from 6 am on Monday in light of the coronavirus outbreak. The lockdown will continue till 31 March.
The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has also suspended Metro services on the Aqua Line and city bus service till 31 March.
Police at Delhi-Gautam Budh Nagar border stopped the vehicles in Delhi from entering into Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Budh Nagar, leading to congestion.
The borders of the adjoining cities have been shut and no vehicles are being allowed to pass through the toll, which led to a massive traffic jam. According to the reports, people stood at the borders and requested the authorities to allow them to cross the border.
The lockdown comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to follow instructions and stay at home to contain the spread of coronavirus.
On Sunday, 22 March, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that from 23 March the national capital will be under lockdown, under which no public transport, including private buses, taxis will be allowed.
He also stated that no transport will operate and Delhi’s border will remain sealed but the essential services will continue.
In a statement released by the Press Information Bureau, the government has asked the states to maintain the lockdown and take strict action against the violators.
