TMC has lodged two police complaints against West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts for his comment that anti-CAA protesters "were shot like dogs", police and TMC sources said on Tuesday, 14 January.

Senior TMC leader and state Food Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick said on Tuesday that party activists have lodged a police complaint against Ghosh for his controversial remark.

Ghosh stirred a row with his remark at a public meeting in Nadia district on Sunday that "anti-CAA protesters were shot like dogs in BJP-ruled states", provoking criticism from political rivals as well as his own party-men.

Ghosh’s Statement

Dilip Ghosh courted controversy on Sunday, 12 January, by threatening to shoot and kill those involved in damaging public property "like the same way in Uttar Pradesh", reported news agency PTI.

Addressing a public meeting in West Bengal's Nadia district, Ghosh came down heavily on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "for not opening fire and ordering lathi-charge" on those destroying railway property and public transport during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in the state in December last year.

Response to Babul Supriyo

“I’m the president of the West Bengal BJP, not him,” said Ghosh, after MP from the party Babul Supriyo distanced the party from his statement.

Speaking to The Quint, Ghosh said that, “Everyone can have their own point of view”, but he is sticking to what he said. This comes after Supriyo called him “irresponsible” for his comment that governments in UP and Assam “shoot people like dogs for damaging public property”.

When told that action on such things can only be mandated by the court, Ghosh said: “Did the court give orders in UP or Assam? It is the government’s duty to act on people damaging property”.

"I've said what our government has done. Nothing new," Ghosh emphasised.

‘2 Crore Muslim Infiltrators in India’

"They will come here, enjoy all the facilities and destroy country's property. Is it their zamindari?" he asked.

Ghosh also called for identifying those "sabotaging the interests" of Hindu Bengalis.

He claimed that there are two crore “Muslim infiltrators” in the country.

"One crore alone is in West Bengal and Mamata Banerjee is trying to protect them," he alleged.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Babul Supriyo in a tweet defended the BJP. The Union Minister stated that the BJP, as a party, has nothing to do with what Dilip Ghosh may have said.
