The Supreme Court on Monday, 25 March, issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the status report in the disproportionate assets case involving Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his sons Akhilesh Yadav and Prateek Yadav.

The SC’s notice came on a petition seeking direction to the CBI to place before the court or jurisdictional magistrate the status report of investigation carried out by the agency into the alleged disproportionate assets of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav.

“We want to know what has happened to this case? There is a status report of 2007. What has happened? We would like to know whether the case is registered?” the SC reportedly asked the premier investigating agency.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta asked the CBI to file its response in two weeks with regard to the present status of investigation in the assets case against Mulayam Singh and his two sons.

The bench was hearing a plea file by Congress leader Vishwanath Chaturvedi seeking a direction to the probe agency to apprise the court of the status of the investigation in the case.
