Recently in the news for killing a Muslim labourer in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand, Shambhulal Regar has told the police that he spent a lot of time on the internet viewing hate speech videos against Islam, and that he wanted to kill Jama’at ud-Dawah leader Hafiz Saeed, the Indian Express reported.
“He told us – give me a chance even now, and I will kill Saeed”. Rajendra Singh Rao, circle officer from Rajsamand told the Indian Express.
Hafiz Saeed is the prime accused in masterminding the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008.
Regar lynched Mohammed Afrazul, a labourer from Malda, and set his body ablaze while his nephew recorded the whole incident on camera. He later posted the video with hateful comments on social media, which led to his arrest the next day. He will stay in police custody till 20 December.
On 14 December, the Indian Express had reported that the police had frozen a bank account with Rs 3 lakh in deposits in his name from 516 people across the country.
