Within 24 hours of joining Twitter, Congress’ ‘Nayi Umeed’ Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has amassed over 1.4 lakh followers on the micro-blogging site.
News agency PTI quoted Congress MP Shashi Tharoor comparing the party’s new secretary in-charge for eastern Uttar Pradesh to Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, hailing her as a "new superstar on social media".
Tharoor, who is among the first from Congress to have joined the Twitter bandwagon and the party's second most-followed leader after its president Rahul Gandhi on this medium, said:
Earlier on 11 January, Tharoor had also taken to Twitter to welcome Vadra on to the platform.
Apart from Tharoor, several other leaders too took to the social media platform to welcome Vadra’s debut.
Vadra had joined Twitter ahead of her roadshow in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 11 February. Congress’ Twitter handle had tweeted out the news on Monday, confirming that the new general secretary of eastern Uttar Pradesh had officially debuted on the social media platform.
While there were no tweets from the handle, it followed seven people at the time this story was written, among them are Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot and Randeep Singh Surjewala.
