The Pollachi sexual assault case has shaken Tamil Nadu.
The brother of the 19-year-old woman sent a video to media-persons on 11 March 2019, appealing to the public to stop spreading rumours and using this case for political mileage.
A 19-year-old woman filed a complaint with the local police station in Pollachi in Coimbatore district, on 24 February, alleging that four men had sexually assaulted her.
She said that the accused – Thirunavukkarasu, Sathish, Sabarirajan and Vasanthakumar – had stripped and assaulted her in a car, and filmed the entire act. The video was later used to blackmail the woman to extort money.
A local functionary of AIADMK, close to this group of men, had allegedly attacked the survivor’s brother.
The party subsequently expelled the man who had been arrested in the attack case. Many suspect that, since there are links to the ruling party AIADMK, the affluent are interfering with the legal process.
This is what the victim’s brother had to say:
“Hello, I am the brother of the sexually assaulted victim in Pollachi. It was us who filed a complaint on Thirunavukkarasu, Sabari and two others. Friends from all political parties have been helpful to us in filing this complaint. We have not filed this case with any vested interests.”
“We met the police and, through a friend, we also met the Pollachi MLA. We told him all that happened, the details, and he has taken immediate action through the police. Four people were immediately arrested. The ruling party leaders continue to help us in this case.”
“I want to tell them just one thing – only if you have proof that the ruling party has any role in this, then go ahead. Give it to the police, they will take necessary action. Please don’t post false things just to tarnish their image.”
“Please don’t give a bad name to the people who have helped us just for your political agenda. The fact that my sister’s name has still not been made public so far, is solely due to those who helped us, and media. I thank all of them.”
