Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an all-party meeting at 5 pm on 19 June to discuss the situation in the India-China border areas, the PM's Office tweeted on Wednesday, 17 June.

"Presidents of various political parties would take part in this virtual meeting," the PMO said.

The meeting comes after at least 20 Indian Army soldiers were killed in the "violent face-off" with China on Monday night.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in support of Modi's decision to call all parties to discuss the situation at the border, said, "We stand by country in this hour of crisis and support Centre's decision to call all-party meet," PTI reported.

Earlier, Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi posted a video message on Twitter, questioning the Prime Minister over the situation at the border.

In a statement late on Tuesday, the Indian Army said, "Indian and Chinese troops have disengaged at the Galwan area where they had earlier clashed on the night of 15-16 June. Seventeen Indian troops who were critically injured in the line of duty at the stand-off location and exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain have succumbed to their injuries, taking the total that were killed in action to 20."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said the loss of soldiers at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh during a clash with Chinese troops is "deeply disturbing and painful".

"The nation will never forget their bravery and sacrifice," he said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, as many as 35 troops have died or have been injured on the Chinese side after the clash, PTI reported on Wednesday, citing official sources, who in turn quoted US intelligence reports.
