Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday, 1 December, and will resume on Thursday, 2 December. Earlier, Rajya Sabha was adjourned as opposition leaders resumed their stern protest against the suspension of 12 MPs for the remainder of the Winter Session. Both Houses were earlier adjourned several times amid the uproar, with Congress and DMK even staging a walk out from Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the suspended MPs held a sit-in demonstration at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament premises.

The second day of the Winter Session had ended in a deadlock, with the Lok Sabha being adjourned for a third time till Wednesday following a boycott from Opposition parties including Congress, DMK, and National Conference.

  • Both the Houses of Parliament will hold proceedings simultaneously for the next 20 working days.

  • The Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 was passed in both the Houses within minutes of its introduction on the first day of the Winter Session

  • As per a Lok Sabha notice, 26 new bills, including the highly-anticipated bill seeking to ban cryptocurrency will be introduced in the Parliament during the session

  • The Winter Sessions is expected to be stormy as it comes ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, and Goa

Opposition Leaders Protest at Mahatma Gandhi Statue

Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in RS Mallikarjun Kharge, held a protest at Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises, pushing for the upturning of the suspension of 12 Opposition MPs of Rajya Sabha, ANI reported.

Amid outrage by the opposition, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon.

'Allow People to Express Views': Cong MP Shashi Tharoor

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor spoke on the vehement resistance against the suspension and said, "Centre has to realize that in this country other voices deserve to be heard. Parliament is for debate and discussion, you've to allow people to express their views, only then can you truly run a democratic Parliament," ANI reported.

'Will Continue Dharna Till We Get Justice': Suspended TMC MP

A suspended TMC MP, Dola Sen said, "The suspension of MPs shows the arrogance of those in the majority. When they were in opposition they also used to disrupt Parliament proceedings. We will continue our 'dharna till the time we don't get justice," ANI reported.

Rajya Sabha Adjourned Till 2 PM 

Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm as Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the ban on 12 opposition MPs for the remainder of the Winter Session.

Terrorist, Infiltration Attacks Decreased Since 2018: MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha indicated that incidents of infiltration and terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir have decreased significantly since 2018.

"A total of 143 incidents of infiltration took place in 2018. Only 28 infiltration incidents were recorded this year till November. A total of 417 terrorist incidents was reported in 2018. This year, a total of 244 terrorist incidents have been reported," the MHA claimed, ANI reported.

4,78,600 Prisoners Lodged in Jails as of 31 Dec, 2019: MHA

The MHA in Rajya Sabha responded to a question regarding incarceration in the State and said, "As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 4,78,600 prisoners were lodged in the jails of the country as against the capacity of 4,03,739 prisoners as of 31st December 2019."

'No Specific Group identified for Spreading Hate in Tripura': Govt

In response to a question on the communal violence in Tripura, in Rajya Sabha, MoS Home Nityanand Rai said, "No specific group identified for spreading rumours and hate speeches against minorities. However, 6 cases have been registered in respect of the malicious posts in social media spreading communal hatred, etc," ANI quoted.

He added that as per the government of Tripura, the state has witnessed sporadic incidents of damage to property and15 cases have been over these incidents in the last few weeks.

'4,557 Afghan Nationals Staying in India After Visas Extended': Govt

MoS Home Nityanand Rai informed Rajya Sabha that at present, 4,557 Afghan nationals were residing in India after they applied for an extension of their visas.

"As of 24th Nov, 200 'e-Emergency X-Misc visas' have been issued," he added, ANI reported.

Lok Sabha was adjourned to meet again at 02:35 PM.

Rajya Sabha Adjourned Till 3 PM

As uproar over the suspension of opposition MPs continued, RS was adjourned for a second time till 3 PM.

12 RS MPs Rally Against Ban on Holding Sit in Protest

12 Rajya Sabha MPs are protesting in Parliament complex, seeking a revocation of the suspension order against staging sit-in protests daily, PTI reported.

The Suspended MPs had earlier said that they will sit in demonstrating against their ban from the parliament from the remainder of the session every day till 23 December.
