British PM Boris Johnson was released from the hospital on Sunday,12 April, after battling COVID-19. He said that the staff saved his life and it “could have gone either way”.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra's case tally reached 1,982 with 221 new cases. Tamil Nadu reported 106 new cases and one new death, taking the state total to 1,075. It has seen 50 recoveries so far.

The total number of cases in India climbed to 8,447 according to health ministry data. 273 have died, 764 have been discharged and one has migrated.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a press conference on Sunday, said that the government will increase the number of COVID-19 containment zones (red zones) and carry out massive sanitisation drives in those areas from Monday onwards.

65 Prisoners in J&K Released Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Sixty-five prisoners, including 22 who were arrested under Public Safety Act (PSA), were released to decongest jails across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The information was given by the director general of prisons in a written report submitted to the division bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court in Jammu.

Tablighi Event Attendee Who Contracted COVID-19 Ends Life in Maharashtra

A 30-year-old man, who attended the religious gathering of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi and later tested positive for coronavirus, allegedly ended his life at a government hospital in Maharashtra'a Akola district, an official said on Sunday, 12 April.

The man, belonging to Nagaon district in Assam, was in Delhi between 6-8 March when he attended the religious congregation organised at Nizamuddin, Akola Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dean Dr Apurv Pavde said.

He was admitted to the GMCH in Akola on 7 April and tested positive for coronavirus on Friday, Pavde said.

75-Yr-Old COVID-19 Patient Dies in Gujarat; State Toll 23

A 75-year-old coronavirus patient died in Ahmedabad, taking the COVID-19 death toll in Gujarat to 23, a senior health official said on Sunday, 12 April

The man succumbed to the disease at LG Hospital late on Saturday night, state principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi said.

He was also suffering from hypertension, she said.

Pak Reports 254 New Infections, Death Toll Due to Coronavirus Reaches 86

Pakistan's coronavirus cases have reached 5,038 with 254 new infections reported, while 14 more people died due to the disease, taking the death toll in the country to 86, health officials said on Sunday, 12 April.

The Ministry of National Health Services reported on its website that 1,026 patients had recovered while 37 were reported to be in critical condition.

In the last 24 hours, 14 people have died due to COVID-19, taking the total number of dead in Pakistan to 86, it said.

Five New COVID-19 Cases in Nashik

Five more persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Nashik, taking the total number of such cases in the Maharashtra district to 20, an official said on Sunday.

17 More Cases in Karnataka, Toll Rises to 232

Three new positive cases have been reported in Bhopal on Sunday, 12 April, taking the state’s total toll to 134. Chief Medical and Health Officer Prabhakar Tiwari, Bhopal said, “We are tracing their contact history.”

Tiwari added, “An 80-year-old asthmatic patient who died before being brought to hospital has tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday night. His contact history has been traced and people in contact with him, kept under home quarantine. With this, death rate toll due to coronavirus in MP stands at two.”

UAE Ready to Fly Stranded Indians If They Test Negative for Coronavirus: Envoy

The UAE has offered to fly stranded Indians and citizens of other countries, who wish to be repatriated, if they test negative for COVID-19, the country's envoy to India told a Gulf daily.

The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) had sent out a note verbale in this regard to all the embassies in the UAE, including the Indian mission, during the past couple of weeks, the country's Ambassador to India Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Banna told Gulf News over phone on Saturday.

Wear Mask in Ahmedabad or Face Rs 5000 Fine/3-Year Jail

In view of the rising number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, the city civic body has made it compulsory for people to wear masks from Monday, 13 April, failing which they would be fined Rs 5,000 or sentenced to three years in jail, an official said.

The order has been issued under the Epidemic Diseases Act in a bid to contain the spread of the deadly disease, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra said on Sunday.

909 Cases, 34 Deaths in 24 Hours; 40 Candidate Vaccines Under Development: Health Ministry

Briefing the media on Sunday, 12 April, the health ministry said that 909 COVID-19 cases and 34 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. “We are extra prepared in case of an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases,” it added.
