The man who accused a former woman employee of the Supreme Court of cheating him off Rs 50,000 with the false promise of getting him a job at the top court has been missing from his home in Haryana since April, said the police to a Delhi court.
The man, 31-year-old Naveen Kumar, had filed the complaint against the same woman who had accused Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi of sexual harassment. In an affidavit, the woman had called Kumar’s case “false and frivolous” and alleged that she was being victimised for her accusations against the CJI.
THE CHEATING CASE AGAINST GOGOI’S ACCUSER
An FIR for the alleged offences of criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy and cheating was lodged against the woman on 3 March 2019, after Kumar, a resident of Jhajjar, Haryana filed a complaint in New Delhi, reported India Today.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch then filed a case against the woman employee. The case was being heard in the Patiala High Court at the time.
On 24 April a fresh case was filed against her under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for criminal intimidation). The Delhi Police also sought for her bail application to be cancelled on the grounds that she was threatening witnesses.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Manish Khurana was informed of Kumar’s unavailablity on 19 July. The CMM had earlier asked for him to be presented in court, reported The Indian Express.
The Investigating officer (IO) in the case, Mukesh Antil, told court that the notice remained “unserved” to the complainant as he was unavailable at his given address.
The court then issued a fresh notice to him asking him to appear on 6 September. It also directed that the notice be served to the complainant directly through the Investigating Officer this time around.
The In-House Inquiry Committee of the Supreme Court that probed the sexual harassment allegations against the CJI concluded in May that it “found no substance” in the allegations.
