Petrol at Rs 81.82 per Litre in Delhi, Rs 87.29 per Litre in Mumbai

The prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi have been hiked by 14 paise per litre and 29 paise per litre respectively.  The revised rates stand at Rs 81.82 per litre for petrol and Rs 73.53 per litre for diesel.

In Mumbai, the revised rates of petrol and diesel are at Rs 87,29 per litre (increase by 14 paise per litre) and Rs 77.06 per litre (increase by 31 paise per litre) respectively.

Brett Kavanaugh Sworn in as Supreme Court Judge

Brett Kavanaugh, 53, was sworn in as a judge of the US Supreme Court, hours after he was confirmed by a bitterly divided Senate by 50-48 votes.

Kavanaugh was officially sworn in early Saturday evening as the 114th Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts who administered the Constitutional Oath in the Justices' Conference Room.

Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Shakes Northern Haiti

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake shook northwestern Haiti late Saturday and there were early reports of damage and injuries, though the extent was not clear.

The US Geologic Survey said the quake hit at 8:11 pm (0011 GMT) and was centered 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of Port-de-Paix on Haiti's north coast. The country's civil protection agency said on its Twitter account that there were reports of damage and injuries, but gave no immediate details.

Search Operation Underway in J&K's Shopian District

Security forces have launched a massive cordon and search operation in six villages of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday, police said.

Joint teams of police, CRPF and Army launched the operation to flush out militants from the area. The operation is underway.

At Least 11 Dead in Haiti Earthquake: Officials

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck just off the northwest coast of Haiti late Saturday, killing at least 11 people and causing damage to buildings in the Caribbean nation, authorities said.

Government spokesman Eddy Jackson Alexis told AFP that 11 people were so far reported dead, adding that a disaster response task force had been set up.

Plea Filed in SC to Bring Office of UP CM Under Lokayukta Law

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Uttar Pradesh government to amend the law to bring the office of Chief Minister under the purview of the Lokayukta.

The PIL, filed by advocate Shiv Kumar Tripathi, has sought a direction for amending the 43-year-old state law to bring the Chief Minister under purview of the ombudsman to ensure effective control over corrupt activities.

ABVP Sweeps University of Hyderabad Student Polls

After an eight year gap, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad swept the student union elections in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) for 2018-19, winning the top six posts.

The ABVP, which contested the polls together with the Other Backward Classes Federation (OBCF) and Sevalal Vidyarthi Dal (SLVD), bagged all six posts, including that of President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary and Cultural Secretary in the elections held on 5 October. The results were announced late on Saturday, 6 October.

DMC Issues Notice to North Municipal Body Over Gayatri Mantra Circular to Schools

The Delhi Minorities Commission has issued a notice to the North Delhi civic body over a circular issued by it for recital of 'Gayatri Mantra' in schools run by its education department.

The education department of NDMC has been asked to explain "why a circular has been issued to its schools to make students recite Gayatri Mantra in morning assemblies.”

Two Israelis Shot in West Bank Attack Die From Wounds: Army

A Palestinian shot and wounded three Israelis in an attack on Sunday in an industrial park adjacent to a Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, Israeli media reports said.

After being critically injured, two have succumbed to their injuries, the army said.

Israeli police and soldiers were searching for the attacker, a police spokesman said, without identifying him.

Aadhaar Mandatory for Treatment Under Ayushman Bharat for 2nd Time

Aadhaar is not mandatory to avail benefits for the first time under the recently-launched Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) but will be compulsory for those seeking treatment under the scheme for the second time, according to a top official.

In case the Aadhaar number is not available, beneficiaries have to at least provide documents to prove that they have enrolled for the 12-digit unique identity number, said Indu Bhushan, CEO of the National Health Agency, responsible for implementing the PMJAY.

Taliban Destroy Highway Bridges, Cut off 3 Afghan Provinces

The Taliban have destroyed highway bridges southwest of Kabul during a wide-ranging assault on security forces, cutting off road traffic between the capital and three provinces, officials said on 7 October, Sunday.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said Afghan security forces repelled the attack but that gunbattles are still underway.

He said at least six Afghan police, including a district police chief, were killed in the fighting.

A provincial official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to brief reporters, said at least 10 police were killed.

China Reports 2 Killed in Vehicle, Knife Attack in Zhejiang

Authorities in eastern China said 2 people were killed and 16 wounded after a knife-wielding man drove a vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians on the night of 6 October (Saturday).

The suspected assailant, identified only by his surname, Wang, was apparently enraged by a "personal conflict" when he committed the attack, the Beilun district government in the Zhejiang province city of Ningbo city said in a statement on its microblog.

36-Year-Old Man Shot Dead, Wife Injured in Rohini

A 36-year-old man was shot dead and his wife injured when some unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the Bawana area of Rohini, police said on 7 October, Sunday. The incident occurred at around 8.40 pm on Saturday.

The assailants shot at Amit and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, the police said.

His wife Jyoti (34) also received a gunshot injury on the right side of the waist, they added.

IndiGo Systems Down, Passengers Stranded at Airports

The systems of IndiGo were down for one and a half hours across airports on Sunday.

"We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers this afternoon due to system being down across airports for around ninety minutes," an airline spokesperson said.

Flights and check-in systems are operating normally now, the spokesperson added.

10 Injured in an Explosion at West Bengal Firecracker Factory

A fire has broken out at a firecracker factory at Gobindapur bypass in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, reported ANI.

According to the news agency, three explosions were heard. Ten workers of the factory injured and taken to a hospital. One employee has been detained by the police while the owner is absconding.

State police say 20 people died in a crash in upstate New York that local officials say involved a limousine near a crowded tourist spot.

The Times Union of Albany reported local officials said a limo speeding down a hill crashed into bystanders at the Apple Barrel Country Store on Saturday in Schoharie. That's about 170 miles (270 kilometers) north of New York City.

Around 100 Dogs in Hyderabad Allegedly Poisoned, Police Reports

Around 100 stray dogs in Hyderabad's Ghatkesar allegedly poisoned by locals. The circle Inspector of Ghatkesar police station said they've received this complaint from an animal activist.

'We didn't find body of any dog on the spot', police said however they added that a case has been registered. Investigation going on.

The Delhi High Court is likely to pronounce Monday its verdict in a plea for tracing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, who went missing from the university nearly two years ago.

A bench of justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel had on 4 September reserved its decision on the petition filed by the student's mother after concluding hearing of arguments of her lawyer and that of the CBI, which took over the investigation on May 16 last year.

Round 1 Of J&k Local Polls Today Amid Fear

After more than a decade, voters in J&K will elect their representatives to the state’s 79 municipal bodies in polls starting Monday.

But with barely a day to go, a resounding silence envelops most of the constituencies in the Valley. Security personnel guard the roads and buildings, and there are no banners in the markets or posters on the walls. Not many voters know who their candidates are or where the nearest polling booth is.
