Airstrike Kills 40 Migrants in Libyan Capital: Official

An airstrike hit a detention center for migrants early Wednesday in the Libyan capital, killing at least 40 people, a health official in the country's UN-supported government said.

The airstrike targeting the detention center in Tripoli's Tajoura neighborhood also wounded 80 migrants, said Malek Merset, a spokesman for the health ministry. Merset posted photos of migrants who were being taken in ambulances to hospitals.

30 Drown as Overloaded Boat Capsizes in Northwest Pakistan

At least 30 people, including four children, drowned and several others went missing as an overloaded wooden boat carrying 80 passengers capsized Wednesday in the Indus river in northwest Pakistan, police said.

The incident occured at Tarbela area in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP province.

Search teams have rescued 15 people and recovered 30 bodies, police said, adding that the deceased included four children and several women.

One Tourist Reported Dead in Volcanic Eruption in Italy

A volcano on the Italian island of Stromboli erupted dramatically on Wednesday, 3 July, reportedly killing a hiker and sending tourists fleeing.

The volcano is known to be active but on Wednesday there was a particularly powerful eruption.

Italian media reported that a hiker had been killed and their partner injued, but firefighters could not immediately confirm any casualties.

"It was like being in hell because of the rain of fire coming from the sky," Italian news agencies quoted local priest Giovanni Longo as saying.

The UK government summoned China's ambassador for a dressing-down on Wednesday, 3 July, after Beijing officials accused Britain of meddling in Hong Kong's affairs.

The Foreign Office said Ambassador Liu Xiaoming was called to a meeting with British diplomatic service chief Simon McDonald over "unacceptable and inaccurate" comments relating to Hong Kong's pro-democracy protests.

Liu accused British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt of interfering in Hong Kong's affairs and supporting "violent lawbreakers".

Two Dead in TN's Temple Town Amid Festival Frenzy

A mini-van driver committed suicide by setting himself on fire on Wednesday, 3 July, after alleging that police did not allow him to take his vehicle to the Varadarajaswamy temple during the Athivaradhar festival.

In another incident, a 21-year old man hailing from Andhra Pradesh fainted and died after allegedly being hit by a woman police officer when he videographed a deity on his mobile phone in the temple.

Police dismissed the allegations as false in both the incidents.

Boeing on Wednesday, 3 July, pledged USD 100 million to help families affected by deadly crashes affected by the two deadly crashes of its 737 MAX planes in Indonesia and Ethiopia that claimed the lives of 346 people.

In a statement, the Chicago-based company said that it will partner with local government and non-profit organisations to support education, hardship and living expenses of the families affected by the incidents, as well as for the community programs and economic development in "impacted communities".
