Two Arrested For Alleged Gangrape of Russian Woman in Manali

The two accused have also been involved in several theft and other criminal activities.

Kullu Police on Wednesday, 5 December, arrested two in connection to the alleged rape of a 30-year-old Russian woman. The arrests came forty days after the woman was allegedly raped in the outskirts of Manali.

One of the accused is a Nepali national, identified as Sanju Tamang, 28, and another accused, Sanjay Kumar, 39, belongs to Palampur, according to Times of India.

The two accused have also been involved in several theft and other criminal activities, said Superintendent of Police, Kullu, Shalini Agnihotri.

She also said that they had four CCTV footages to work on when they began narrowing down the suspects.

They will be produced in court for an identification parade while the survivor will be travelling to Kullu for the same on Thursday, 6 December.

The alleged incident occurred when the woman was passing through an isolated area after having dinner Thursday night on 25 October, Kullu Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri said.

On her complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Manali police station, Agnihotri said.
