Delhi Police Recover Jaffrabad Shooter’s Pistol From Residence

The man in question, identified as Shahrukh, was arrested by the Delhi Police from UP’s Shamli earlier on Tuesday.

Delhi Police have recovered the pistol of the Jaffrabad shooter, identified as Shahrukh – who opened fire and pointed his gun at police during violence in northeast Delhi – from his residence, police confirmed to The Quint on Saturday, 7 March.

On Tuesday, 3 March, he had been sent to four-day police custody.

The man in question, identified as Shahrukh, was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch from Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli earlier on Tuesday, and brought to Delhi.

Ajit Kumar Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police, while addressing a press conference in the national capital, said that the authorities are trying to recover the pistol used by Shahrukh.

Singla further mentioned that Shahrukh fired during protests in a “fit of rage” and he has no criminal background but his father has cases of narcotics and fake currency against him.

Shahrukh has been charged under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 186, and 353 of IPC and Arms Act. Further sections will be added during the course of investigation if needed, the police official said, according to ANI.

In a video that went viral last week, the man could be seen wielding a country-made pistol in front of a policeman on the Jaffrabad-Maujpur road on 24 February. 

The man fired eight rounds in the presence of police personnel.

On 25 February, ANI had reported that the shooter was first detained and later arrested by the Delhi Police – a report that was neither refuted not corrected by the cops. However, two days later, a senior Delhi Police official told The Quint that the shooter had not been arrested.
