After Quint Hindi published a story on the issues plaguing the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website owing to the advertising of 48 months of the Modi government, the IRCTC has finally fixed the problem.
This advertising by the government created several obstacles for those coming to the website to book their rail tickets.
For the past few days, the railway reservation portal, www.irctc.co.in, was carrying an advertisement on the completion of four years of the Modi government. The moment one accessed the website, it would pop-up a full page advertisement declaring the achievements of the government since it rode to power in 2014. But this advertising created unnecessary hassles for those coming to the website to book their tickets.
In an open letter written to the railways minister, Quint Hindi detailed how this advertisement had been running on the website even six days after the Modi government completed its 48 months on 26 May. We asked the government until when this advertisement was expected to stay on the site.
After speaking to a number of hassled IRCTC users, we requested the railways minister to get it fixed.
On Saturday, 2 June, this advertisement was fixed on the IRCTC website. If we open the website now, it does not block the whole screen. Instead, it occupies a small portion on the side and on the top, making it user-friendly and easily accessible.
