As the Telangana police shot dead the four accused in the Hyderabad veterinary doctor's murder and rape case in an encounter on the morning of 6 December, The Quint spoke to the families of all four accused.

While the kin of one of the accused asked, why such a step has not been taken in other rape cases, another clearly said she wants those who killed her husband to be killed.

On the intervening night of 27 and 28 November, a Hyderabad vet doctor was allegedly abducted, gang raped and suffocated to death before being found burnt on 28 November morning.

The four accused are Chinakunta Chennakashavulu, Mohammad, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Naveen.

‘Please Kill Those Who’ve Killed My Husband’

Reacting to the news of the encounter accused Chennakashavulu’s wife, who got married to him six months ago said,

“I’ve been cheated, sir. It has not even been a year since we’ve been married. Please kill those who’ve taken my husband and killed him. I don’t think I will live. They said they would bring him back all these days and now they have done this. I will surely die. I cannot live without my husband.”

She has been distraught since the news of her husband’s death was told to her.

Outside Mohammad’s Home, The Family Is Broken

Mohammad Areef’s father cried profusely on the phone while talking to The Quint. “Vo bol rahain hai usko maar diya ma. Bol rahain hai encounter kar diya ma. Aaj subah hi pata chala hai humko,” he said. (They are saying they killed him. They are saying he was killed in an encounter, we got to know today morning only).

Ibrahim, who is a neighbour of Areef, told The Quint that he thinks this was a planned killing. “This is wrong, all of this has been planned. How can the police just kill all four of them. We do not believe it is an encounter,” he said.

‘Agree What They Did Was Right’: Kin of Accused

The family of the other two accused, Shiva and Naveen, asked why has the police not taken such action against other people accused in such crimes.

Jollu Rajappa, father of Jollu Shiva and maternal uncle of other accused, Jollu Naveen, who had gone to the police to sign as the representative for both Naveen and Shiva, said that the family didn't even know about the encounter, till they were contacted by the media.

“We didn’t know of this (encounter). Only after you spoke, we came to know that the police shot them dead,” he said.

When asked if he thinks this was right, he said,

“So far, why hasn’t such action been taken against those accused of multiple rape cases. I agree that what they did here was right...”
