The Attari block president of Youth Congress' Anti-Narcotics Cell in Punjab, Guriqbal Singh from Hoshiar Nagar was arrested by police after 2 gm of heroin was found in his possession on Sunday, 30 September, ANI reported.

Harpal Singh, SP Rural Punjab Police told ANI that a case was registered in the matter and the accused was sent to juidicial custody.

The development comes the same day the Punjab government, lead by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, decided to set up three more forensic and chemical examiner laboratories to speed up the testing of the drug samples, The Times of India reported.

The comprehensive action against drug abuse (CADA) aims to provide results of drug samples within 30 days to help the Punjab Police for speedy investigations.

The incident also tarnishes Amarinder Singh’s promised efforts to rid the youth of the state of blatant drug abuse.
