“We do not want corporate farming. The government will benefit from this law, not the farmer,” farmers told the Centre during the fifth round of talks over farm laws on Saturday, 5 December. Both protesting farmers and the Centre will hold the sixth round of talks on Wednesday.

Seeking to break the deadlock over the ongoing protests against the farm laws, the Centre told the 35 representatives of agitating farmers that they are ready to address all their concerns with an open mind, PTI reported citing its sources.

The fifth round of talks between the central government and protesting farmers was held at Vigyan Bhawan on Saturday, with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar present. He reportedly told the farmer unions that the government is committed to talks and welcomes feedback on farm laws.

  • On Thursday, a meeting between the farmers’ representatives and the government ended inconclusively, though the latter seemed willing to concede to some of the demands

Farmers Continue to Hold a Sit-in Protest at Chilla Border

Farmers continued to hold a sit-in protest at Chilla border (Delhi-Noida Link Road) against the Centre's farm laws, news agency ANI reported.

“If anything concrete doesn't happen in today's meeting with the Central government then we will gherao the Parliament,” a farmer protesting at the Chilla border told ANI.

Farmers continue to camp at Delhi-Haryana border in Tikri in protest against the new farm laws.

Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisories

The Delhi Traffic Police said, “Chilla border on Noida link road is closed for traffic from Noida to Delhi due to farmers protests near Gautam Budh Dwar. People are advised to avoid Noida link road for coming to Delhi and use DND.”

Gazipur border (UP-Delhi border) on NH-24 was also closed for traffic from Ghaziabad to Delhi due to farmers protests, according to ANI.

Meet With Farmers at 2 pm, Hopeful of Positive Outcome: Tomar

“A meeting is scheduled with farmers at 2 pm today. I am very hopeful that farmers will think positively and end their agitation,” Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Saturday, according to ANI.

Farmers in India Have Right to Demonstrate Peacefully: Guterres Spokesperson

Farmers in India have the right to demonstrate peacefully and authorities should allow them, according to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

"We want to see people have a voice in their lives," Dujarric said on Friday at his daily briefing when a reporter asked about the ongoing farmers' protests against the agriculture reform laws introduced by the Indian government.

"What I would say to you is what I've said to others when raising these issues is that people have a right to demonstrate peacefully, and authorities need to let them do so," he added, according to IANS.

Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Narendra Tomar Reach PM Modi's House

Ahead of the fifth round of meeting with agitating farmers, Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Narendra Singh Tomar have reached PM Narendra Modi's residence in New Delhi, ANI reports.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal is also present at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi. NDTV reported, quoting sources, that the Centre may consider amending the laws.

UP Congress Prez Reaches Ghazipur Border to Support Farmers

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu on Saturday reached Ghazipur border (UP-Delhi border) to support the farmers protesting against the farm laws.

"This government is anti-farmer. We demand that the news laws be withdrawn," he said, according to ANI.

Farmer Leaders Leave for Vigyan Bhawan

Farmers’ leaders have left from Singhu border for Vigyan Bhawan to hold the fifth round of talks with the Central government over the farm laws.

RJD Holds Protest in Patna Against Farm Laws

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Saturday a protest at Patna's Gandhi Maidan against the Centre's farm laws.

"We demand that the Centre repeals the black laws,” RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, according to ANI.

Farmers' Leaders, Narendra Tomar Reach Vigyan Bhawan for Talks

Farmers' representatives and Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar have reached Vigyan Bhawan to hold the fifth round of talks with the Central government on the farm laws.

"We want the withdrawal of the laws. We won't accept government's offer to amend the laws," Harsulinder Singh of Doaba Kisan Sangharsh Committee told ANI.

“We want a complete rollback of the laws. If the government doesn't accept our demand, we will continue our agitation,” Harjinder Singh Tanda, state chief of Azad Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Punjab said.

Want Solution, Commitment: Farmers at 5th Round of Talks

During the fifth round of talks between the Centre and farmers’ leaders, the government has given the farmers, a written reply of the minutes of the previous meeting as had been requested by the farmers.

According to ANI, at Saturday’s meeting, the farmers said that they need a solution or a commitment and do not want further discussion.

Case Against Tejashwi Yadav For Protesting Against Farm Laws

A case was registered against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and 18 others as well as 500 unidentified people for holding a protest without permission, against the Farm Laws, outside Gandhi Maidan in Patna today. The FIR registered under multiple sections of IPC and Epidemic Diseases Act.
