Several people have been reported dead in rain-related incidents across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, which continue to reel under heavy monsoon showers on Wednesday, 13 July.

In Gujarat, at least 14 people have died in the downpour in the last 24 hours.

Further, landslide killed a father-daughter duo in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Wednesday.

14 Dead in Gujarat in Past 24 Hours

In Gujarat, at least 69 people have lost their lives to calamitous rain since 1 June. Officials said on Wednesday that over 31,000 people had been evacuated so far.

"Fourteen people lost their lives in the last 24 hours. Nine of the deaths were due to drowning," Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi said while addressing the press.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red alert,' predicting heavy rains during the next 24 hours in the districts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat.

Several parts of Kutch, Bharuch, Dang, Navsari, and Tapi districts in south Gujarat received very heavy rainfall in the 24-hour period till 6 am on Wednesday.

Further, three national highways in Gujarat's Kutch, Navsari, and Dang districts were blocked due to heavy rains.

The National Democratic Alliance' (NDA) Presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu's scheduled visit to Gujarat on Wednesday has been postponed due to heavy rains in the state, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) official said.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered the administration to undertake a survey of the affected areas so that people do not have to wait for too long for cash and other facilities to compensate for the damages caused.

Meanwhile, all schools and colleges in Navsari will remain closed on Thursday, 14 July, due to the flood-like situation.

Father-Daughter Die in Maharashtra Landslide, 6 Swept Away in Nashik

The IMD issued a red alert for Maharashtra's Palghar, Nashik, and Pune for the forecast on Thursday, while an orange alert has been issued for Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara, Amravati, and Thane.

A father-daughter duo was reported dead after a landslide in Palghar. Anil Singh, and his daughter Roshni Singh (16), have been reported dead in the district which has been witnessing very heavy rains since Tuesday night which caused waterlogging in many low-lying areas.

His wife Vandana Singh (40) and son Om Singh (12) got trapped in the debris. Some locals and firemen later pulled them out and they were admitted to a hospital for the treatment of their injuries, an official said.

At least six people were swept away following heavy rains in Maharashtra's Nashik district over the last 24 hours and the body of one of them was found so far, officials said on Wednesday.

A 25-year-old man was swept away in Mutha river, while his friend who was stranded on the bridge was rescued by the police and fire brigade in Maharashtra's Pune on Wednesday.

Disrupting normal life, the rain also forced thousands of people to be evacuated, and pushed many others into shelters.

Incessant showers continued in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Wednesday as well, causing flooding in many low-lying areas and traffic snarls on roads, officials said.

In Nashik, daily life remains disrupted with schools and colleges being shut.

Madhya Pradesh

In MP's Malwa district, three children were killed and four others injured after being struck by lightning.

Meanwhile, three residents of MP's Betul district were killed after their vehicle was swept away from a flooded bridge in Nagpur.

Odisha

Meanwhile, at least 10 houses were damaged due to a landslide in Odisha's Gajapati. Major roads were also inundated in the state's Malkangiri and Kalahandi districts, as per PTI.

The IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts across the state in the next two days.

The districts where an orange alert was issued on Wednesday include Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Ganjam, and Nayagarh.
