‘I Am a Son of India, Mentally and Physically,’ Says Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama, who is on 3-day visit to Mumbai, was speaking at Guru Nanak college of Arts, Science and Commerce.

Explaining why he belongs to India, Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on Thursday, 13 December, said during an event in Mumbai:

“Media from China and America asked what makes me a son of India. I answered that my brain is filled with thoughts of Nalanda and this physical body survived on India’s dal-chapati and dosa. So both physically and mentally I’m from this country and that’s how I’m a son of India.”

In the hour-long speech during the 'Silver Lecture Series' function in Mumbai's Guru Nanak college of Arts, Science and Commerce, the 83-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader added that according to Tibetan religion, all human beings are created by God.

"Today, we have created a lot of problems on our own including, greed, exploitation," he said. He also said that everyone's rights and desires should be respected.

The Dalai Lama, who is on a three-day visit to Mumbai, will next address students on 14 December, during the 22nd TechFest 2018 at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay.

Previously, the 14th Dalai Lama on 12 December had delivered speech at the International Conference on the "Concept of Maitri (Metta) in Buddhism", organised by the Department of Philosophy, The Centre for Buddhist Studies at the University of Mumbai.
