India on Sunday, 16 May reported 3,11,170 new COVID-19 cases, 3,62,437 discharges, and 4,077 deaths on Sunday, as per Union Health Ministry. The total active cases in the country stand at 36,18,458.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that the lockdown imposed in Delhi has been extended for another week till 24 May. The lockdown in Punjab too was extended till 31 May, CM Amarinder Singh said.

Earlier on Sunday, the second consignment of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine arrived in Hyderabad with 60,000 doses of the second dose component.

At least 1,053 children of up to nine-years of age, in Uttarakhand, were affected with COVID-19 between 16 April and 30 April, and 1,618 children were affected between May 1 and May 14, according to the State Health Department.

As per the Union Health Ministry, India reported 3,11,170 new COVID cases, 3,62,437 discharges and 4,077 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 2,70,284.

India has vaccinated over 18 crore people so far.

Jaipur District Collector Antar Singh Nehra said today, “The virus is spreading in rural areas also. We have started a door to door survey campaign in which a medicine packet will be provided to people with ILI (Influenza like illness) symptoms.”

PM Modi, on Sunday, 16 May, held a detailed discussion with Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel on COVID19.

During the discussion, as per ANI, the CM told the PM that testing has been increased in the state. The positivity rate is steadily declining, attention is being paid to rural areas of the State, he added.

Chhattisgarh CM also told PM Modi that additional teams have been deployed in the areas where cases are still increasing. He further requested the PM to provide adequate amount of vaccines to the State.

Haryana CM Inaugurates 500-Bed COVID Care Centre in Panipat

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated a 500-bed COVID-19 care centre called the Guru Teg Bahadur Sanjeevani Hospital in Panipat. Union Minister of Petroleum Dharmendra Pradhan was also present.

“Indian Oil Corp Ltd is also providing 50 rooms in nearby hotels to doctors engaged at the Covid care centre in Panipat for six months. This facility will bolster emergency care for COVID-19 patients from Panipat, Sonipat, Karnal, and other regions of Haryana,” Pradhan said.

“Panipat refinery is currently producing 280 MT medical oxygen which was earlier 200MT. Panipat refinery is supplying oxygen to various states. We have imported 200 cryogenic tankers. India is importing 13,000 MT oxygen from the countries like UAE, Oman,” he added.

Suburban, EMU Trains in Benga To Remain Suspended

Over 20 Crore Vaccine Doses Provided to States So Far: Centre

Over 20 cr vaccine doses (20,28,09,250) have bee provided to states and union territories free of cost so far, the Union Health Ministry said.

“Over 1.84 crore vaccine doses (1,84,41,478) are still available with the States/UTs. Nearly 51 lakh doses, in addition, will be received by them in the next three days,” the Health Ministry tweeted.

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday ordered an extension of all existing restrictions up to 31 May, with directions for strict enforcement of all the curbs, the state government said.

India's Requirement of Liquid Medical Oxygen Rises to 10,000 MT

India’s requirement of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) has gone up to 10,000 MT now, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Sunday.

“We will get 13,000 MT imported LMO by July. Have commercial tie-ups with Singapore, Bahrain, Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman & Kuwait. There will be no shortage in country,” he told ANI.

CoWIN Reconfigured to Reflect New Vaccine Protocol

CoWIN digital portal was reconfigured to reflect the change in dose interval of Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks, the Centre said.

“Already booked online appointments for 2nd Covishield dose will remain valid and are not being cancelled by CoWIN,” the Centre said.

“Beneficiaries are advised to reschedule the appointment for 2nd dose of Covishield in alignment with an enhanced duration between two doses,” it added.
