Six people were killed after a house collapsed due to a blast in Bihar’s Chhapra on Sunday, 24 July.

The explosion occurred in Khudai Bagh village at around 10 am at the residence of a man who was in the firecracker manufacturing business.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Superintendent of Police in Saran, Santosh Kumar said, “Six people dead after a house collapsed due to a blast in Chhapra. Efforts are being made to rescue people trapped under the debris. We're investigating the reason behind the explosion. Forensic team and bomb disposal squad have also been called.”

According to sources, The Quint gathered that the firecrackers first started exploding in the house of one Reyooz Miya at 10:00 am. However, the explosions continued till 1:00 pm in a series of blasts.

As of now, six people have succumbed to the blasts and more than 12 people have been injured.

A team from the fire rescue department, Sadar Deputy SP of Police Muneshwar Singh, Balwara Deputy SP of Police Inderjit Baitha, and Inspector Manju Kumari of Khudai Bagh police station reached the spot to carry out the investigation.

The police personnel and fire brigade who reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported, tried to enter the house; however, they had to retreat due to the series of blasts that were taking place.

While there are rumours that the explosion that brought down the house was a very powerful one, villagers told The Quint that Reyooz Miya and his brother Shabbir Miya were not involved in any criminal activity and that they were in the firecracker business.
