China and South Africa urged fellow BRICS governments on Wednesday, 25 July, to fight protectionism and promote multilateral global trade, in the face of tariff threats by US President Donald Trump.

'BRICS, a Medium for India to Make Strong Relations with South Africa'

Counsel General of India to Johannesburg, KJ Srinivasa on Wednesday, 25 July, told ANI that “BRICS is another medium for India for making strong relations with South Africa.”

He further added that India and South Africa will release twin stamps of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the incident when Gandhi was thrown out of train at Pietermaritzburg station, reported ANI.

PM Narendra Nodi on Thursday, 25 July, presented the Country Statement of India at the BRICS Leaders' Closed Session in Johannesburg.

Chinese President Xi Jinping Delivers Speech at the 10th BRICS Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a concerted effort by global institutions such as the United Nations, the G7 and the World Trade Organisation to fight unilateralism and protectionism in his speech on Thursday, 26 July at the BRICS summit in South Africa.

Xi also stressed on dialogue to settle disputes on global trade, underlining remarks he made at the opening of the summit the previous day urging a rejection of unilateralism in the wake of tariff threats by US President Donald Trump.

In his speech at the 10th BRICS Summit on Thursday, 26 July, PM Modi said that India will have to ensure that the rapid changes in the field of technology can be achieved in at least the same pace in the education curriculum. He further added “We will have to design the syllabus of our schools & universities in a way that it prepares the youth for future”.

PM Modi addressed the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg on Friday, 27 July. In his speech, Modi said,

“From the past four years, my government has prioritized development and peace in Africa. We have designated line of credits worth $11 billion to more than 40 countries. Further, the Indian private sector has invested $54 billion in the African countries.”
