Human rights activist Sudha Bharadwaj, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, was taken into police custody on Saturday, 27 October, reported ANI. Pune Sessions Court has sent Bharadwaj to custody till 6 November.

The Maharashtra police reached Bharadwaj’s residence in Haryana’s Faridabad city around 12:30 am, but she was formally arrested on Saturday morning as the law does not permit the arrest of women after sunset, The Hindu reported Bhardwaj's counsel Shalini Gera as saying.

According to ANI, Bhardwaj's application before Pune Sessions Court mentioned that the “applicant must be provided with condition of incarceration, bathing and toilet facilities (in police custody) which are on par with those that have been promised to Vijay Mallya."

“She is the active member of CPI(M), so the activities she has done or doing for banned organisation need to be investigated,” public prosecutor Ujwala Pawar told ANI, demanding a 14 day-custody for her.

Bail Rejected, Activists Ferreira and Gonsalves Taken Into Custody

After a Pune court rejected the bail plea of activists Arun Ferreira and Vernon Gonsalves, who were also accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, the duo were taken into police custody as the time period for their house arrest ended on Friday, 26 October, PTI reported.

Special Judge KD Vadane rejected the bail applications of Ferreira and Gonsalves, along with that of Sudha Bharadwaj, observing that the material collected by the police, showed their alleged links with Maoists.

Pune Police had arrested the three activists – along with Gautam Navlakha and Varavara Rao – on 28 August in connection with the Elgar Parishad conclave held in Pune. The conclave allegedly triggered violence at Koregaon Bhima on 31 January this year.

HC Restrains Police From Arresting Gautam Navlakha

Bombay High Court has granted interim protection to Navlakha from house arrest till 1 November, ANI reported.

A division bench of Justices Ranjit More and Bharati Dangre adjourned the hearing on Navlakha's plea, who had sought quashing of the FIR lodged against him by Pune Police.

The high court, however, refused to grant any interim relief to professor Anand Teltumbde, a co-accused in the case who has not been arrested yet. Teltumbde plea will be heard by High Court on 1 November, PTI reported.

The fifth activist, Varavara Rao’s house arrest was extended by three weeks by Hyderabad High Court on 25 October, according to ANI reportes.
