A 24-year-old woman has accused her former lover and CEO of a startup of stalking her, breaking into her house and threatening her life, over the past few months.

Speaking to The Quint, the woman claimed that despite her filing an FIR on 12 September, Rahul Singh, 28, has managed to evade the police and continues to harass her with abusive mails and threatening messages which prove he is watching her daily. He also allegedly broke into her house and stole her phone on 1 September.

“Even so many days after approaching the cops, he is still messaging me. Even today (24 September), he sent me an email where he described what I was wearing, and telling me that there is a ‘surprise’ for me. I am afraid that he has some pictures of me that he is going to leak. He has already abused me in very crass language. I am afraid to go to work everyday, thinking something may happen to me, but I cannot give up my job,” the resident of HSR Layout said. The complainant moved to Bengaluru two years ago and first met the accused in December 2017.

The complainant said that it was due to Singh’s father’s influence that the police were still not taking action. The accused is son of Director, CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR), Dhanbad. In her complaint, the woman has also claimed that the father called up her mother in another city, and threatened that the complainant’s life would be at risk if the case is not withdrawn.

The private firm employee has alleged in her complaint to the cops that Rahul Singh, 28, was physically abusive towards her during their relationship, causing her to call it off in August this year. Soon after they broke up, the abuse allegedly intensified.

An FIR has been registered with the HSR Layout police on charges of anonymous criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, stalking, trespassing, insulting with the intent of provocation, and section 67 of the IT Act, which is publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form. The accused is currently out on bail.

'Broke into her House, Stole her Phone and Hacked her Social Media'

Speaking to The Quint, the complainant said that Singh had broken into her house on 1 September and stole her phone soon after she snapped all contact with him.

“Even when we were in a relationship, he was always suspicious of me and would check all my messages to make sure I was not talking to anyone else. When I broke up with him, he was very angry and suspicious that I was leaving him for someone else,” she said.

In her complaint she wrote, ”He breached my privacy by resetting my Facebook password and logging into my account. He was summoned by HSR Police and he gave his written statement on 2 Sept before the police mentioning that he would not contact me ever again and if he does so any legal action could be taken against him. He also returned my mobile phone.”

However, two days later, she says, he started calling her at all hours of the night and sending abusive messages. She also claims that he bribed her security staff to get more knowledge of her whereabouts. She managed to file an FIR on 12 September and was assured by the cops that he would be detained soon. But she was later told that the cops were in touch with the accused’s father and that he was absconding.

'Stalked, Abused and Intimidated'

“Two days after the FIR, that is on 14 September, Dr PK Singh, father of Rahul Singh, called my mother and asked her to take the complaint back and threatened to kill me if I don’t take the case back. On 18 September, I saw Rahul Singh outside my house. He had followed me from my office and he made swift strides towards me with a concealed weapon, which looked like a dagger. I ran to the confines of my society to save my life. Every single day I venture out to work, I am stressed with the fact that I might be murdered en route,” she said.

She also said that the accused had created several fake email ids from which he was sending abusive mails to her. “I feel unsafe and my life is at risk. If anything happens to me Rahul Singh only must be responsible,” she writes in her complaint.

Pattern of Abuse

The complainant said that her relationship with the accused turned abusive soon after they started dating.

“He was very abusive within months. He would assault me physically, slap me, and then apologise. This would keep happening. Finally, I decided to end it. I was in depression. He used to control me, I wasn’t allowed to go out or do anything without his consent. He was always very suspicious,” she told The Quint.
