An Assam All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Anant Kumar Malo, and former AIUDF MLA Ataur Rahman Majharbhuyan are two of the names among the 19 lakh people excluded from the final Assam NRC list, a Scroll report said.
According to local news outlet Northeast Now, Majharbhuyan, who is now with the Congress party, had, along with his family members featured in the first draft of the NRC list published on 31 December 2017. However, his name doesn't feature on the final list that came on Saturday 31 August. Majharbhuyan's two daughters and his son, all have been struck off from the final NRC list.
“After my name along with my daughters and son got struck off from the second and final draft of the NRC list published on 30 July 2018, I was served a notice to visit NSK number 8, Dhudpur, in Katigorah,” he was quoted by Northeast Now as saying.
He then said that he had later cleared all his documents and was reassured of rectifying the mistakes. But that never happened.
AIUDF MLA Ananta Kumar Malo. speaking to Outlook, said that he would abide by the rules and regulations of the system.
These names add to the list of prominent people who were excluded from the list. Apart from these, retired Army officer Mohammad Sanaullah, who has been fighting for his citizenship for a while has also been excluded from the list.
