Prominent Muslim body Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind on Wednesday demanded action against BJP leader Kapil Mishra and the police officers in whose presence he made remarks that allegedly incited violence in Delhi, PTI reported.
Jamiat chief Maulana Arshad Madani said some people want to harm the brotherhood and integrity of the country using religion, but asserted that his organisation will not allow such evil people to succeed in their plans.
"Jamiat has always been an example of Hindu-Muslim unity throughout the country and has worked for humanity and brotherhood," he said.
He said that Jamiat is with every victim's family and will give all possible help to them.
Amid the violence in northeast Delhi, Russia has issued advisory asking its citizens to be careful, avoid large gatherings and violence-hit areas, PTI reported.

Reacting to the violence, the House Foreign Affairs Committee said its Chairman Eliot Engel was "deeply troubled by the deaths from the communal violence in India." It said the right to protest is a key aspect in democracy, but they must remain peaceful and police must ensure the safety of all.
"I condemn attacks against Muslims in India, and reject violence, bigotry, and religious intolerance. The US State Department should too," Republican lawmaker Don Beyer tweeted.
US Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said the "deadly surge of religious intolerance in India is horrifying".

The US Embassy has issued advisory asking its citizens to exercise caution, keep a low profile and avoid all areas where demonstrations are taking place in Delhi, PTI reported.

The Aligarh Police has issued prohibitory notices to over 300 people, restricting their movement and warning them of action if there is any trouble in the city, which has seen violent clashes over the CAA, PTI reported.
Officials said the “red notices” were issued on Tuesday to 302 people in connection with the violence on Sunday, informing them about restriction on their movement.
The notices have been issued in connection with the violence in Upper Court locality on Sunday evening when women protesters were asked to vacate a sit-in site. The tension spilled over to Monday morning when clashes broke out between the anti-CAA protesters and the police in Jamalpur locality.
The death toll has risen to 25 as three more people died during medical treatment on Wednesday, 26 February, Medical Superintendent at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital Sunil Kumar said, according to ANI.
A compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be paid to the next of kin of the people who have died in the violence over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi, PTI reported quoting senior officials said on Wednesday.
“Persons who have been seriously injured will be given a relief amount of Rs 50,000," a senior official told PTI.

Some kind of "2002 Gujarat model" is unfolding in Delhi, the NCP said on Wednesday as it attacked the Centre over the violence in the national capital, according to PTI.

After visiting affected-areas of northeast Delhi, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has reached the Home Ministry to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, ANI reported.
Addressing the Delhi Assembly amid the escalating violence in northeast Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, 26 February, assured that Rs 1 crore will be given to the family of head constable Rattan Lal, who lost his life in the clashes.
"People of Delhi do not want violence. All this has not been done by the 'aam aadmi'. This has been done by some anti-social, political and external elements. Hindus and Muslims in Delhi never want to fight," Kejriwal added.
Haryana Police has issued advisory on law and order situation across the state, especially for the districts adjoining Delhi in the wake of the recent violence that has taken place in national capital, ANI reported.
UN Chief Antonio Guterres is closely following the situation in New Delhi and stresses that demonstrators should be allowed to protest peacefully and security forces should show restraint, his spokesperson said, according to PTI.
"I think it's very important that demonstrators be allowed to demonstrate peacefully and that security forces show restraint. This is the SG's constant position," Secretary General Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at the daily press briefing on Tuesday.
Senior Congress leaders including general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday participated in a peace march from the AICC headquarters in Delhi to the Gandhi Smriti against the violence in Delhi.
Besides Priyanka, senior leaders Mukul Wasnik, KC Venugopal, PL Punia, Randeep Surjewala, Rajeev Gowda attended the march among others.
The number of deaths following violence in northeast Delhi rose to 23 on Wednesday, 26 February, according to news agency ANI. 22 deaths were reported in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and 1 death in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
“So far we have treated 200 patients, 22 deaths took place. Majority of the patients have been discharged, 35 patients are still admitted with us,” Medical Superintendent of GTB Hospital Sunil Kumar told ANI.
CBSE on Wednesday, 26 February, postponed exams scheduled for Thursday in Northeast Delhi amid escalating violence over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
However, exams in rest of the city will be conducted as per schedule. The next date of exam for affected students will be notified shortly.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Wednesday visited Maujpur in northeast Delhi to take stock of the situation in the area.
“The situation is totally under control. People are satisfied. I have confidence in law enforcement agencies. Police is doing its work,” Doval said.
On his visit to Maujpur, Doval also interacted with the residents of the area.
Delhi HC asks police to take ‘conscious decision’ on lodging of FIRs and convey it to the court on Thursday, PTI reports.
On the plea of deployment of Army in the violence-affected areas, the Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, said, “We don't want to enter into the question of deployment of Army. We should focus on the issue of registration of FIR right now.”

Briefing the media about the violence in northeast Delhi, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday, 26 February, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval are monitoring the situation, ANI reported.

Delhi High Court earlier applauded the police for prompt action in evacuating injured in violence hit northeast Delhi.
In an urgent sitting that ended at 1:42 am on Wednesday morning, the Delhi high court directed the Delhi Police to immediately escort some 20 persons injured in the ongoing riots in Mustafabad, North East Delhi to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
“The government will identify the culprits of Delhi violence and no accused will be left out,” Union Minister Javadekar said.

Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry on Tuesday, 25 February, issued advisory to private TV channels asking them to refrain from broadcasting any content that could incite violence.

Six people were declared brought dead on Tuesday, taking the death toll in 11.
Schools to remain closed on Wednesday, 26 February, in violence affected Northeast Delhi, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, adding that internal examinations have been postponed.
“Have requested CBSE to postpone Wednesday's board exam in view of violence in parts of Delhi," Sisodia added.
The Delhi Minorities Commission on Tuesday appealed to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal for imposition of curfew in violence-affected areas, PTI reported.
In a letter to Baijal, DMC chairman Zafarul Islam Khan expressed apprehension that violence may escalate after departure of the visiting US president Donald Trump.
He also requested the Lt Governor to direct the police to check violence and take action against those involved in it.
A delegation of civil rights activists, including All India Progressive Women's Association Secretary Kavita Krishnan, on Tuesday went to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence to submit an appeal to protect the people in the city from communal violence, PTI reported.
Over 100 activists, including Harsh Mander, Apoorvananad, Annie Raja, Yogendra Yadav, Shabnam Hashmi, and senior advocate Vrinda Grover came out with a statement in which they called upon "all authorities to perform their constitutionally mandated job of bringing the situation under control and restoring peace".
Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday, 25 February, said the traffic movement from Shahdara towards Apsara Border has been closed after barricading by UP police. Traffic has been diverted towards Surya Nagar, they added.
Rioters set afire to shops and pelted stones in a fresh wave of violence on Tuesday evening in Chand Bagh area of northeast Delhi, PTI reported.
The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd in the area. Paramilitary forces have also been deployed to bring the situation under control.
Rioters also set a bakery and several fruits carts on fire.
A high alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow following violent clashes over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in parts of Delhi, a police official said on Tuesday, 25 February.
Lucknow Police Commissioner Sujeet Pandey said additional force has been deployed in Ghantaghar area where women and others have been staging a protest against the CAA for the past one month.
"Though there is no report of people from other parts of the state reaching Lucknow, high alert has been sounded as a precautionary measure," Pandey was quoted as saying by PTI.
Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, 25 February, wrote a letter to the wife of Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal, who died during clashes over CAA in Northeast Delhi on Tuesday, PTI reported.
“I express grief and deep condolences on the untimely death of your husband,” Shah said.
The police conducted flag march in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura and Khureji Khas on Tuesday after the areas witnessed arson and stone pelting, according to PTI.
A battery shop was set on fire in Bhajanpura. The shop was vandalised and burnt batteries were strewn on the road.
Rakesh Kumar, a local, said the incident took place at around 3:30 pm.
The Delhi Police on Tuesday, 25 February, dismissed a story by news agency PTI titled ‘Shortage of forces led to violence aggravating: Delhi Police to MHA’ as “totally baseless, adding that no such information was given to Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Earlier, PTI reported that the Delhi Police told the MHA that it did not have adequate forces to immediately control the violence that hit parts of Delhi.
The non-availability of adequate forces was conveyed by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik during his meeting with the top brass of the MHA, the report further said.
Delhi Police spokesperson MS Randhawa on Tuesday, 25 February, said 10 people was killed and at least 130 injured in the clashes.
“I appeal to people, especially in Northeast Delhi to not take law in their hands. We are taking the help of drones also. Situation is under control,” Randhawa added.
The death toll in northeast Delhi violence has climbed to 10, reported ANI quoting GTB Hospital officials. At least 150 injured people were also brought to the hospital in the last 24 hours, the officials added.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday, 25 February, said it would hear on Wednesday, a plea seeking registration of an FIR and arrest of persons involved in the ongoing violence in northeast Delhi over the CAA, PTI reported.

Fresh incident of stone-pelting has been reported from Bhajanpura and Chand Bagh in northeast Delhi, according to CNN-News18.
Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Tuesday, 25 February, paid tribute to Delhi Police head constable Rattan Lal, who lost his life during clashes in Northeast Delhi on Monday.
“Head Constable Rattan Lal has made a sacrifice for the nation. We are proud of his sacrifice. We stand with his family,” Patnaik told ANI.
A Delhi court on Tuesday, 25 February, directed the Delhi police to submit a specific status report on the alleged police attacks on students inside the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia University during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on 15 December last year, PTI reported.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gurmohina Kaur asked the investigating officer to file the report by 20 March.
The death toll in northeast Delhi violence climbs to nine, reports PTI quoting GTB Hospital officials.
Medical Superintendent of GTB Hospital Sunil Kumar said, “Today four persons have been brought dead, yesterday five people lost their lives. Death toll rises to nine,” according to ANI.
At least 135 injured people were also brought to the hospital, the officials told The Quint.
“Fifty per cent of those injured sustained bullet injuries,” a doctor at the hospital said.

Two complaints have been filed against BJP leader Kapil Mishra for inciting mobs in Delhi in Sunday and Monday’s violence, news agency IANS reported.
The written complaints say that during protest, Mishra incited people with his inflammatory speeches, which led to violence. However, as of now no action has been yet taken against Mishra.

“The entire country is worried about the violence that took place in Delhi in the past two days. There has been loss of lives and properties. If violence increases it will affect everyone. All of us are here to offer our prayers to Gandhi Ji who was a follower of non-violence,” Kejriwal was quoted by ANI as saying.
In the wake of violence in northeast Delhi, activist Yogendra Yadav made an appeal to the people of Delhi to not believe rumours without verifying them and to the police to maintain neutrality. He also asked the protesters to not resort to violence.
Stone pelting started once again between two groups near Bhajanpura chowk in northeast Delhi on Tuesday, ANI reported.

Rioters damaged two fire tenders in Gokulpuri in northeast Delhi, fire officials said on Tuesday as violence continued unabated in the area, PTI reported.
An angry mob raising incendiary slogans also set on fire a bike in Maujpur, the epicentre of the clashes over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in which seven people were killed and about 150 injured on Monday.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, 25 February, met central Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the prevailing situation in the national capital amid clashes over the Citizenship (Amendment Act) (CAA) in northeast Delhi.
“Everyone wants that the violence be stopped. The Home Minister had called a meeting today, it was a positive one. It was decided that all the political parties will ensure that peace returns to our city,” he said after the meeting.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has condemned the violence in Delhi over the amended Citizenship law that has claimed the lives of five people including a police constable, and urged the Centre to take steps to bring the situation under control.
Addressing a protest on Monday night against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), he said,
"The president of a foreign country comes to Delhi and violence takes place. It is a matter of shame for the country..," the AIMIM leader said adding violence in any form was "condemnable."
The police has brought an injured person to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, after he suffered a gunshot wound. Shortly after, another injured person was brought to the hospital, reports ANI.

An NGO on Tuesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking registration of an FIR and arrest of persons involved in ongoing violence in North East Delhi over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, reports PTI.
The petition, which is likely to be mentioned before the high court, also seeks setting up of an SIT to inquire into the incident and compensation for those killed and injured in the violence.
It has also sought directions to the Centre for deployment of the Army to maintain law and order in the national capital and areas where the "communal attack on people are most ferocious".
Several women gathered at Delhi’s Jaffrabad metro station to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Act on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, 25 February, called for peace in his media address over the outbreak of violence in northeast Delhi. He said he will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah at 12 pm as the police is “not able to take action without orders from above.”
The chief minister also asked all hospital authorities to give best possible treatment to victims and asked them to stay on vigil. "Fire department has also been asked to coordinate with police and reach the affected areas on time," he said.
He said there is a need to seal borders to prevent outsiders from coming and indulging in violence. "I have asked district magistrate to conduct peace meetings where people from all religions participate. I have asked MLAs also to participate in them," Kejriwal said.

Former Central Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah and others moved SC seeking lodging of an FIR with regard to recent violence in Delhi over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. The application will be heard on Wednesday, 26 February.
An SC bench had earlier observed that interlocutors in the Shaheen Bagh case, Hegde and Ramachandran, could take the assistance of Habibullah.
Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the North East Delhi district from Monday, 24 February, as the death toll climbed to 7 on Tuesday, 25 February.

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said that strict action will be taken against people involved in the violence in Delhi, ANI reported.
