After being denied entry into a settlement of the Golla community (Gollarahatti) in Karnataka's Tumakuru district, BJP MP A Narayanaswamy was given a warm and grand welcome by the residents of the village on Monday, 23 September.
On 16 September, the Chitradurga MP was denied entry into the settlement as he hailed from the Dalit community.
On 23 September, Narayanaswamy was in the village attending an event titled, ‘Mathadheeshara Samarasyada Nadige’ (Seers’ Walk for Harmony). Addressing a gathering over there, he clarified that he was not ‘harassed’ in any way during his first visit on 16 September, reported The Indian Express
In the grand event, where the village was decked up with banana leaves, the MP was showered with flowers and garlands when he entered the village. He believes that while a few are ‘stuck with age-old beliefs and practices’, most of the villagers believe in working towards the abolition of such practices.
Narayanaswamy, during his second visit, distributed LPG cylinders to families and promised development works such as drainage facility, stormwater drains and proper roads, reported The Indian Express.
