A suspect in the Gauri Lankesh murder case has alleged that he had confessed to being involved in her murder only because the Karnataka police had offered him Rs 25 lakhs in return for saying that, reported NDTV.
Another suspect has asserted that he only said that he was involved in the murder, because the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was issuing threats to his family.
A suspect’s confession or denial, however, is not admissible in a criminal trial.
Waghmare and Edave are reportedly among 12 people arrested in connection with the crime so far. One of the 12 accused, Sudhanwa Gondhalekar, has also previously confessed to being involved in the killings of Narendra Dabholkar and MM Kalburgi, as well.
Gauri Lankesh was killed in a cold-blooded murder on 5 September, 2017.
