On Monday, 31 July, two home guards — Niraj and Gursev Singh — were killed, allegedly by a mob during the violence that broke out during a religious procession in Haryana's Nuh district.
Meanwhile, on 1 August, the Cyber Crime police station in Nuh too was attacked, allegedly by "a mob of thousands."
The FIRs filed in the two cases at City Nuh police station have been accessed by The Quint. Both the FIRs have been filed against "unknown persons."
According to the Haryana Police, as of 9.30 am on Thursday, August 3, a total of 83 FIRs have been filed in the state and 165 people have been arrested so far in relation to the violence.
Here's what the two FIRs detail:
The FIR was filed on 1 August on the basis of a complaint by Inspector Ajay Kumar of Kherki Dhaula police station. In the FIR, he said that he had received orders from his senior officials to go to Nuh to help quell the violence.
He along with his team comprising sub-inspector Devendra, PSI Arun, head constable Shera, constable Pawan Kumar, and home guards Neeraj and Gursev proceeded towards Nuh.
Upon reaching Anaj Mandi near Cyber police station in Nuh, they were allegedly attacked by a mob, claims the FIR.
The FIR claims that the mob "pelted stones" and attacked police personnel with "sticks, iron rods, and stones" which ultimately led to death of Niraj and Singh, and left several officials injured.
“They (mob) pelted stones, blocked our way, and started firing at us with an intention to kill. Police personnel were brutally beaten up,” it reads.
“When our vehicle reached Anaj Mandi Gate near Cyber police station, Nuh, a large number of people appeared on the road with deadly weapons. They threw stones on the road and blocked our way and started pelting stones at us with an intention to harm or kill us. As stones rained, it hit all police personnel and the glasses of the vehicles were broken,” Kumar said in the FIR.
“Constable Pawan Kumar, HC Sher Singh, SI Devendra, PSI Arun, HGH Niraj, HGH Gursev were badly injured and I sent them to General Hospital Sohna Gurugram,” said the inspector in the FIR.
The FIR has been filed under IPC sections pertaining to murder, rioting, and unlawful assembly, among others, and section 25 of the Arms Act.
On Wednesday, 2 August, Gursev’s mother told The Quint, "He was the sole breadwinner. Now that he is no more, what will happen to his children? We never expected he would suddenly be gone like this one day."
On Monday, 31 August, at 3.30 pm, the Cyber Crime police station in Nuh came under attack. An FIR has been filed at City Nuh police station under sections pertaining to rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntary harm or hurt to a public servant, mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage, and dacoity, among sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 25 under the Arms Act.
The Quint accessed the FIR, which has been filed on the basis of a complaint by police sub-inspector (PSI) Suraj.
PSI Suraj alleged in the FIR that he and eight other police officials were present at the Cyber Crime police station around 3.30 pm on 31 July when, during a religious procession, “a large and agitated mob, consisting of thousands, suddenly surrounded the police station from all directions and began pelting stones.”
The FIR claimed that the mob loudly shouted their intention to “burn them alive.”
According to the FIR, “The rioters engaged in acts of violence, including pelting stones, firing shots at the police, and setting ablaze several vehicles belonging to the police staff.”
The FIR claimed that the police, “in self-defence, resorted to using firearms from the police station's armoury” and “fired retaliatory shots and teargas shells in the air.”
The FIR claims that a yellow bus “driven by rioters” allegedly crashed into the walls and the main gate of the police station.
“ASI Digvijay from Sadar Tauru police station, along with a colleague arrived in a government Bolero car and came running inside the police station to save their lives from the stone pelting... Some of them (rioters), armed with illegal weapons, climbed onto the walls and roofs of the station to directly attack the police staff,” the FIR claimed.
The police personnel, as per the FIR, sought refuge behind walls to avoid gunfire from the mob. When the situation escalated, “constable Pradeep Kumar fired teargas shells in an attempt to stop the rioters from pelting stones but they persisted.”
The FIR also details the number of shots fired by the police personnel.
The FIR claims that rioters destroyed and set fire to private cars belonging to police officials both inside and outside the premises by pouring petrol on them. “Inside the police station, the rioters looted two government plastic coolers, an inverter, a battery, a laptop, and ASI Suresh's wallet,” claims the FIR.
“After that, a significant police force arrived. The rioters abandoned the bus and ran away before threatening to kill us,” the FIR added.
Meanwhile, The Quint spoke to eyewitness -- Giriraj Prasad, a shop owner nearby. He claimed, “There were six to eight policemen inside the police station and a mob of thousands of people... I heard multiple rounds of firing. I had locked myself inside the shop or else they would have killed me too."
He alleged that the mob damaged his car, broke window glasses, and set multiple shops on fire.”
