The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 16 December, issued a notice to the Centre over a bunch of petitions, seeking removal of farmers from the Delhi border. The apex court told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that it intended to set up a committee, comprising representatives of farmer unions across India, the government and other stakeholders, to resolve this issue.

Meanwhile, as the farmers’ protest against the three contentious farm laws entered Day 21, protesters blocked the Noida Link Road towards Delhi at the Chilla border, ANI reported.

BJP Govt 'Defaming' Farmers Instead of Listening to Them: Akhilesh Yadav

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav said that instead of listening to farmers, the BJP government was "defaming" their protests against the Centre's new agriculture laws. Yadav alleged that the BJP only misleads people.

Farmers Threaten to Block Chilla Border Again

Farmers have been staging a dharna on the Delhi border in protest against the three agricultural laws. Now, they are warning to again block the Chilla border that had re-opened a last few days ago.

Farmers Harden Stance Over Farm Laws

"The government is saying 'we won't repeal these laws'. We are saying we will make you do it. The fight has reached a stage where we are determined to win no matter what," farmer leader Jagjeet Dallewal told journalists at the Singhu border on Tuesday, according to NDTV.

"We are not running away from negotiation, but the government has to pay heed to our demands and come forward with concrete proposals," he reportedly added.

SC to Hear Plea for Immediate Removal of Blockade Today

The Supreme Court will hear a plea today seeking immediate removal of protesting farmers who have blocked several border points of Delhi during their agitation.

SC Issues Notice to Centre Over Farmers' Protests, Intends to Form Committee

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Centre and the states over a batch of pleas, seeking a direction to the authorities to immediately remove the farmers who are protesting at several border points of Delhi against three new farm laws, ANI reported.

A Bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian also granted permission to implead farmer organisations. The matter will be heard in the apex court on Thursday, 17 December.

The court told SG Tushar Mehta that it intended to set up a committee, comprising representatives of farmer unions across India, the government and other stakeholders to resolve this issue.

“...This will soon become a national issue and with the government, it won't work out it seems,” the bench told Mehta.
