Jack Ma, founder and chairman of online marketplace Alibaba, sparked criticism after he advised his newlywed employees to have sex six times in six days, 669.
Ma, China's richest man, was speaking at his company's mass wedding which takes place every year on 10 May also known as 'Ali Day'.
His remarks were a wordplay on the firm's controversial 996 work schedule, which expects staff to work 12-hour shifts between 9am and 9pm during a six-day week. The “996” work philosophy was criticised by the tech industry.
The “669” philosophy has also created a social media storm, with many net users calling it lewd.
According to the Daily Mail, Ma is a former English teacher who co-founded Alibaba in 1999 and became China's richest man.
He defended the Chinese work practice of ‘996’ last month and called the long hours a 'huge blessing'.
Social media has been discussing this ever since Ma propounded the 669 theory. Here’s what the discussion was all about.
