Hindi popular fiction is witnessing a welcome revival – with young authors, fresh narratives and experimental styles. These publications have not only secured a wide reader base, but also been successful in breaking the Chetan Bhagat-Durjoy Datta supremacy in Indian popular fiction.

We thought of introducing you to some such authors, and their works.

Ravish Kumar – A Cool Hindi Author

Journalist Ravish Kumar’s book Ishq Main Shahar Hona (Being Civilized in Love) has broken the charts with 12,500 copies sold till date. Priced at Rs 69, this book is being read by people who were previously reading Chetan Bhagat. An e-book is coming soon.

Nikhil Sachan’s Old School Stories

IIT-IIM graduate Nikhil Sachan tells his stories from the point of view of protagonists. Priced at Rs 84, Namak Swadanusaar has already sold 5,000 copies. He kept the stories simple and demonstrably grabbed the attention of readers.

Satya Vyas’s Novel is Fresh

Based on the hostel life of the Benares Hindu University (BHU), Satya Vyas’s debut novel encompasses all the elements of pleasure writing. The author has sold over 4000 copies – replete with college romances, and Five Point Someone-like friendship stories that young Indian readers have looked for otherwise in Durjoy Datta’s books. The book costs Rs 81.

Anu Singh Chaudhary’s Stories About Women

With over 3000 copies sold, Neela Scarf is a rare book for Hindi readers because of its tone and characters. Priced at Rs 70, Anu Singh Chaudhary’s book entails stories of women and urban existence.

Divya Prakash Dubey’s Masala Chai is an experiment. English language words are written in English script to keep the text easy, ensuring a speedy read. The book has already sold 2,500 copies.
