Brijesh Patel, the chairman of the IPL Governing Council, declares the IPL 2022 auctions open.
It's the big Indian Premier League (IPL) auction and we're all ready to bring you the latest from Bengaluru. There are 217 spots up for grabs in the 10 IPL franchises, with a total of 590 players going under the hammer.
We have two first-timers today with Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joining the IPL bandwagon this season onwards.
All franchises have been allowed an auction spending cap of Rs 90 crore by the IPL Governing Council. There is also a Rs 67.5 crore minimum spending limit.
A full IPL squad can have a maximum of 25 players and a minimum of 18.
A total of 27 players have been retained by the eight existing franchises.
Two new teams - Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans - have acquired three players each.
A total of 600 players (377 Indian and 223 overseas) will be up for grabs.
Each team should have a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25 players in their squad by the end of the auction.
Each squad can have at most eight overseas players in the squad.
Teams need to spend a minimum of INR 67.5 crore (USD 9 million approx.) from their total purse of INR 90 crore (USD 12 million approx.).
There are a total of 229 capped players, 364 uncapped, and seven players from the Associate teams.
The lowest base price is INR 20 lakh (USD 27000 approx.) and the highest is INR 2 crore (USD 270,000 approx.).

Meanwhile, an update on Edmeades: A medical team is attending to him.
"Our auctioneer is stable. The medical guys are attending to him. He should be back for the next set," a BCCI spokesperson said.
Edmeades collapsed after reportedly suffering from low blood pressure. He was attended to by the medical team at the Bengaluru hotel where the auction is going on.
Charu Sharma will be the new auctioneer for the rest of the auction on Saturday.
"Mr Hugh Edmeades, the IPL Auctioneer, had an unfortunate fall due to Postural Hypotension during the IPL Auction this afternoon. The medical team attended to him immediately after the incident & he is stable. Mr Charu Sharma will continue with the Auction proceedings today," as per the official Twitter account of IPL.

A total of 74 players were sold on Day 1 of the 2022 IPL auction with Rs 388 crore being spent by the 10 IPL franchises.
Sunrisers Hyderabad made the most buys on the day, adding 10 players to their line-up but they still have another Rs 20.15 crore left to spend on Sunday.
Mumbai Indians bought only four players, to add to the four they retained, and go into Day 2 with Rs 27.85 crore left to buy the rest of their squad. Remember, each team must have a minimum of 18 and maximum of 25 players in the line-up.
