Actor R Madhavan got irked by the Congress party taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a video posted by them on Twitter. The actor criticised the nature of the video posted on the party’s official Twitter handle and said, “This is in such bad taste. Whatever the political rivalry - Shri Modi Ji is the Prime Minister of this country and you are demeaning this nation in front of China in this video with such crass attempt at humour. NOT expected from this Twitter handle”.

However, he faced a backlash from stand-up comedian Aditi Mittal, who took to Twitter criticising him for finding the video offensive.

The war of words between the BJP and the Congress erupted after China once again put a ‘hold’ on a proposal to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. The proposal was moved by France, the UK and the US, days after a suicide bomber of JeM killed over 40 CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama area.

China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the Security Council, has blocked India's bid for the fourth time in the last 10 years.
