2018 was the year of surprise weddings in Bollywood. Above all, the most talked about couple of Bollywood tied the knot last year - Deepveer. 14 November 2018 was the date when our onscreen Bajirao Mastani began a new chapter in their lives.
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone celebrate their first wedding anniversary today, and have planned a three-day trip to mark the occasion. DeepVeer will first visit the Balaji temple and then Padmavati temple to seek God’s blessings. Next, the couple will fly to Amritsar, Punjab. There, they will visit the Golden Temple and seek blessings.
As they begin their wedding anniversary preparations, we bring you a complete roadmap of all the major milestones of their relationship.
Love at first sight, as they say, is what happened with Ranveer Singh. He first saw Padukone at the Zee Cine Awards in Macau, wearing a stunning silver gown. Remembering that day, he says, “I almost went flat!”. When asked by a fan on Twitter about how he remembered what she was wearing, Singh replied, “How can one possibly forget that sight?”
The same year, the duo was cast for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon ki Raasleela...Ram Leela. Though the film did hit a few roadblocks in terms of casting, we couldn't have asked for a better pair for Bhansali’s love saga. Their love, allegedly, blossomed on set and sparked rumours of them dating. Both of them tried keeping the budding romance hidden, but in an interview with NDTV, Ranveer said, “It's part of the territory, you have to accept it that as public figures your life is public too, you cannot get upset and you have to take it in your stride.” Their beautiful chemistry in the film rocked the box office, making the film one of the highest grossing ones of the year.
This year turned out to be an extremely successful one for Deepika, not just on the personal front but professionally as well, thanks to the release of four back to back blockbuster films - Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram Leela.
Reports say that Deepika had no idea about the said cameo and Ranveer came on board after he loved the way Homi narrated his part.
Given that the Piku actor hadn’t been home for months, Singh reportedly visited her in Dubai where she was shooting for Happy New Year. Photographs of them letting their hair down at a party thrown by Shah Rukh Khan, went viral on social media, substantiating their dating rumours.
While the couple was trying too hard to keep their relationships under wraps, their sizzling chemistry couldn’t escape the sight of ardent fans when they performed together at Zee Cine Awards 2014. They danced to the songs of their hit, Ram Leela, and truly captivated the audience.
Social media went crazy over Ranveer’s ‘cuteness’, when pictures surfaced from director Farah Khan’s 50th birthday bash on 8 January 2015. Being his hopeless romantic self, the Befikre lad held out a yellow flower for her, while she walked on holding onto Karan Johar’s arm.
At IIFA Awards 2015, Singh threw subtlety out of the window and received Padukone on stage by going down on one knee. The actor couldn’t help blushing while he sang Ram Chahe Leela for her.
Their electrifying chemistry surpassed new levels when they shot for the Vogue India grand anniversary cover. One couldn’t help but notice the comfort and camaraderie they shared. In an interview to Vogue, Ranveer mentioned, “Nobody looks at anything else when Deepika is in the frame”, adding playfully, “I wouldn’t!”.
The pair’s charm won our hearts once again when they came together for Bhansali’s epic romantic drama Bajirao Mastani. Not just their chemistry but their individual performances also won accolades from audience and film critics alike. During the film promotions, Singh didn’t hesitate in appreciating Padukone’s abilities as an actor.
When his famous Bajirao moustache had to be chopped off, for him to start shooting Befikre, Ranveer trusted no one but her. In a viral video, Deepika is seen chopping off Ranveer’s moustache with a pair of scissors and their fans couldn’t stop gushing.
During the Tamasha actor’s performance at IIFA 2016, the fans got little more than a glimpse of the couple’s PDA when she ended her performance by making heart gestures and giving a flying kiss to an elated Ranveer. The pair more or less went public with their relationship when they were seen leaving the Ambani bash hand in hand, that year.
2017 had been a landmark year for Deepika, as she marked her foray into Hollywood with xXx: Return of Xander Cage opposite Vin Diesel. Singh could be seen by her side always, lending his support throughout one of the most important phases of her career. Later that year, the duo was also spotted attending the Ganpati celebrations at the Ambani house together, coordinated in metallic ensembles.
Even after their two blockbuster films together, the audience wanted more of them and they got Padmaavat. Though they didn’t share screen space in the film, they definitely proved to be each other’s lucky charms, with the movie taking the box office by storm. The two were also seen entering the premiere together, walking hand in hand.
In the opening episode of Koffee with Karan Season 6, the love lives of both Deepika and Alia Bhatt were discussed openly, and the announcement of the impending wedding of the on screen Ramleela couple coincided with the episode where there were many veiled references to the wedlock.
Putting an end to all speculations, the duo announced on their social media handles that they would be getting hitched on 14-15 November this year. Nobody sets relationship goals like they do, and we couldn’t help but keep thinking how and where their beautiful wedding would take place. During an HT Summit, they also opened up about the #MeToo movement and even broke into a dance. Let’s leave you with that adorable visual.
