Baahubali actor Madhu Prakash was booked by the Cyberabad Metropolitan Police in Hyderabad on Wednesday, 7 August, for his alleged involvement in his wife Bharti’s death. The police have registered the case under Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to dowry deaths.

“Tuesday evening Bharati had committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her residence. Upon receiving the information, we reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy," Ravinder, Circle Inspector, Raidurgam police station told ANI, adding that Prakash will be remanded in judicial custody on Thursday, 8 August.

The news agency reports that Bharti’s father had lodged a complaint alleging that Prakash used to harass her for dowry and had beaten her on multiple occasions. He also accused him of abetting her to commit suicide. The couple got married in 2015 and had been living with Prakash’s parents in Panchavati colony in Hyderabad.

According to media reports, Bharti made a video call to her husband at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 6 August, threatening to kill herself. Prakash rushed to the residence and found the door to her to her room locked from the inside. By the time he managed to unlock it with a spare key, she had hanged herself.
