Student of the Year 2, which hit theatres on 10 May, has failed to cross the 50 cr mark even after 5 days since its release. The total earnings of the film at the Indian box office is 49.37 crores.
On Tuesday, the film had earned Rs. 44.45 crore in the 4 days since its release. According to Taran Adarsh, the film’s eanings declined by 54.23% on Monday.
Student of the Year 2 made a modest start at the box office, having earned Rs 12.06 crore on its first day.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh observed that this makes Student of the Year 2 Tiger Shroff’s second biggest opener after Baaghi 2, which collected Rs 25.10 crore on day 1 when it released in 2018.
Whether or not the film will go on to make a mark at the box office remains to be seen, and according to Adarsh is dependent on the numbers multiplexes are able to rake in over the rest of the weekend.
Student of the Year 2 has received a lukewarm response from critics who have questioned its unnecessary over-the-top grandeur and lack of substance. The Quint’s Stutee Ghosh writes, “The only way to describe Student of the Year 2 is that it is Karan Johan’s “dharma” to campaign for star kids and display to the world what these lovelies are capable of.”
Student of the Year 2 is a sequel to 2012 film Student of the Year, which launched the careers of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. The film stars Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey. It has been directed by Punit Malhotra and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
