Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy has finally released and while critics have been singing praises of Ranveer Singh, who plays aspiring rapper Murad, it’s newcomer Siddhant Chaturvedi who has grabbed the audience’s attention. Siddhant plays MC Sher who introduces Murad to rap and mentors him as he tries to find his place in the scene — the Future to Ranveer’s B Rabbit, if you will.

If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you’ll still recognise him from the film’s version of Naezy and Divine’s 2015 hit ‘Mere Gully Mein’.

Here’s all you need to know about Gully Boy’s Siddhant Chaturvedi.

His Hometown Is in Uttar Pradesh

Siddhant was born in Uttar Pradesh but his family moved to Mumbai when he was 5 years old.

This ‘Gully Boy’ Almost Became a Chartered Accountant

Following in the footsteps of his father, Siddhant pursued a career as a chartered accountant. It was only after winning a talent contest organised by Bombay Times that he decided to devote his time to the performing arts instead.

His First Acting Gig Was in a Web Series by Luv Ranjan

In 2016, Siddhant joined the cast of Life Sahi Hai, a web series by Pyaar Ka Punchnama director Luv Ranjan. The show followed the lives of four young men who move to Delhi and find themselves in the middle of all sorts of shenanigans as they try to navigate work and relationships.

Siddhant has also featured in a few ads, including one for Coca Cola.

He Was Also Part of an Emmy Nominated Show For Amazon Prime

The actor played a young cricketer on Inside Edge, a web series based on a fictional T20 cricket team which premiered on Amazon Prime in 2017.

The cast included Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha and Angad Bedi and the show was produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani’s Excel Entertainment, which has also backed Gully Boy. Inside Edge was nominated in the Drama category at the 46th International Emmy Awards in 2018.

Acting Isn’t His Only Skill

Siddhant apparently is also trained in martial arts, dance and parkour.

He also counts painting and writing poetry among his interests.

‘Gully Boy’ Is Siddhant’s Bollywood Debut

Gully Boy marks Siddhant’s first step into Bollywood. His performance as Ranveer’s mentor MC Sher in the Zoya Akhtar directorial has been earning him well-deserved praise. While there’s no offical word on his next film, we’re sure to see him onscreen very soon.
