Recent reports that the producers of Kangana Ranaut starrer Mental Hai Kya have postponed the release date of the film from 21 June to 26 July have set rumour mills buzzing. Several speculated that Kangana deliberately requested the producers to shift the dates to spite Hrithik Roshan, whose film Super 30 releases on the same day.

The producers, Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, have issued a statement clarifying that the decision to move the release date of Mental Hai Kya was “purely for the business prospects”.

“The shift in the release date is a decision taken after the recommendations from the distributors, trade analysts and top research team, keeping in mind the releases a week before and after this date,” they said.

They also assured audiences that there would be no face-off on their part against Super 30.

“On knowing, that there is already a movie scheduled for a release on that date, we did it all in our purview to ensure that there will be no mud slinging and it will be dignified release. We stand by assuring that to all other parties,” Balaji Motion Pictures added.

Kangana had earlier moved the release date of her period drama Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi to 26 January, which coincidentally was when Super 30 was originally set to release. The team behind Hrithik’s film then made a decision to shift the date, citing pending production work as a reason.

Kangana and Hrithik have shared a frosty relationship since 2016 when the Queen actor referred to Hrithik as her “silly ex” in an interview after being ousted from his film Aashiqui 3. Hrithik lashed back denying that he had ever dated her and tweeted that he would rather date the Pope than any of “the women the media has been naming".

Kangana and Hrithik co-starred in Kites in 2010 and Krrish 3 in 2013, during the shooting of which they were rumoured to have become a couple.

Mental Hai Kya reunites Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut after 2014’s Queen. The film has been written by Kanika Dhillon and helmed by National award-winning director Prakash Kovelamudi.
